2015 Chilli Growers Thread

Anyone got any tips on getting my plants to grow out rather than up? Every year I end up with chillies that have grown upward but not outward. I'd like to encourage more flowers so therefore want the plants to be bushy and not tall and spindly! At the moment they're not ready for anything to be done, the poor weather we've had recently hasn't allowed them to grow much at all. I feel like they're very far behind so far this year!

Pinch the top shoots off. Literally pinch them... .Crush them between your fingernails to cut them off. Don't cut them with anything sharp. Pinching sort of seals them.

Just been kindly giving these three plants by a gardener at work. Never grown chilli plants before so will be interested in watching them
flourish.

Things are beginning to pick up now! My super hot... bell peppers are looking excellent.

And my sweet nardello peppers are looking just like the photo!

So bit of a strange one, have just come back from holiday (2 weeks) and it appears my self watering system did keep the plant alive. Its got lots of chillis growing and plenty of new flowers appearing. However i've noticed that quite a few of the chilli's have a brown discolouring, usually just down one side.

Ill get some pics when i get home, any ideas in the interim?

I moved my chillies outside in to their new greenhouses for the summer..

I've already got a lot of chillies growing on them so should be in for a good crop this year!

Could they just be ripening or are they too small yet?

I know mine have always turned from green to dark green and then purpley/black in places before ripening to red.

Managed to get all but two repotted last night and did a little bit of pruning to encourage more bushy growth. My Nardello and Cayennes are beginning to ripen. :)

I've whittled down to only 2 and a half plants this year. All were overwintered (one was so close to being a gonner, not sure it'll do much this year).

Both others (Twilight purples and some kind of ghost jolokia) look pretty healthy and are making screeds of flowers. However both are dropping flowers nearly as fast! I went aggressive on the assisted pollination and have some success (about 7 Twilights, and 3 jolokias) but for the number of flowers I'd expect more. Anything I can do to encourage pollination? Both on a wind free windowsill.

I'm please with the jolokias, i heard they were hard to fruit. I'd like more though!

Both plants are too big really (70cm tall), but didn't want to cramp their style....

Not very good pictures

About March I was in Wilko and saw a chilli starter pack - wasn't Scotch bonnets but some ordinary chilli

Started them on window sill and all 10 seeds took - finally thinned them out and got 8 plants from them. - Potted them up and they did well but now they look a bit sick but have load of chillies on them - Put three in a Pasta dish last week and had the sweat on brow and runny nose so they were quite hot.
