2016 New Year Bike Plan - input required

Current 105 is absolutely the outright price/performance sweet spot. Anyone with no overall preference should look there first.

Maybe I just missed it but Campag still don't have hydraulic discs right? Shame really, though the cost would still put me off.

I think I'd always struggle to justify anything other than Shimano simply down to price. I guess I need to ride with some SRAM/Campag to convince myself to believe the switch is worth it.

I'm going to have all three at some point. Sometime soon, probably in he next couple of years, I'm going to replace my winter bike with a steel frame and Campagnolo groupset, probably just Veloce, with cable discs. I also intend to build or buy a carbon bike with SRAM Rival at some point.

Just had a couple of beers for courage and ordered one of those Cannondales. It's not the Cervelo R5 I dream of but it's a ridiculous amount of bike for the money! I've needed a bigger frame for ages, 130mm stem is getting a bit silly.

Is it a regular BB30 bottom bracket?

nah even cannondale finally realized bb30 was **** so its PF30 ( pretty much same thing and just as creaky )

Ah, that's the thing with the bearings in a plastic sleeve you press in? Hoping to fit a Praxis Works converter BB to fit my FSA chain set but some people say there is a lip on the BB that makes this impossible. I can't find any pictures of the BB up close so will just have to wait till it arrives.

I think I will invest in the Praxis unit also. They seem to have a good report for not creaking. Having said that I have had no issues with my chinese frame which is bb30.

The Praxis unit won't work properly in the Supersix as the bearings are seated in a raised lip. :( I guess it would still screw together OK but the expanding collet element wouldn't work as it has nothing to expand against.

Update: I've bought the KCNC PF30 unit to run my Power2Max (would fit any other 24mm crankset i.e. Shimano). The cheapest I found it is here: http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/kcnc-bb30-bottom-bracket-to-shimano-adaptor-road-68-mm-prod33009/ but feel free to shop around. Bike 24 is marginally cheaper by the look of it. This unit also screws together as well as pressing in, but doesn't have an expanding element like the Praxis. As above, I guess there's no reason why the Praxis wouldn't work, but it seems pointless to spend extra for a benefit you're not getting.

Also, the Supersix Evo is a great looking frame in the flesh. Really pleased with it.

Update 2: The KCNC unit works with 25mm axles out of the box (KCNC's own chainsets) but includes a shim for 24mm axles. There's no reason you couldn't replace the bearings with a 24x37x7 type that wouldn't require a shim when they die. Something like this: http://www.wychbearings.co.uk/MR24377-2RS-Enduro.html

Hmmmm, didn't know about this - more research required it seems.

Just had a look at my frame. I can't see any reason why the Praxis BB shell will not work. There is no evidence of a moulded lip or any inner shell obstacle so I reckon it will be ok

Ah, just seen the Praxis comes with a sleeve that I guess will solve the issue of the BB shell being wider in the middle than the edges. Should work fine then, looks like the way to go!

As much as Fulcrums are shiny, the first two options just 'feel' nicer to me. Of those I'd dismiss the second simply for the Hadron link (I mean..why?).

Wheelsmith has a very good rep.

Wheelsmith out of those, but I've always thought they're very overpriced for what they are since they are Chinese carbon (and they don't make any secret of it). There are plenty of comparable rims on Aliexpress (see below). Personally, I'd buy a set of those, get them trued by a reputable builder of your choice and pocket the £450.

Shamrock makes an excellent point about the Swissside. :D

Pretty much got all the bits now. Will build in a couple of weeks :)

New bike is here. Had it built last week and managed a 50 yesterday. Quite a big step up from the Wilier in terms of power transfer, stiffness and descending ability. I wasn't on good form yesterday but the bike was impressive. Looking forward to racking up some miles.
