2016 R8 V10 Plus

I really think that the new R8 is a step back from a styling perspective. Your one looks purposeful but refined and understated. The new one I think just looks wrong with that spoiler and I don't like that they've got rid of the full-height black air scoops.

I only like black wheels on white cars. Otherwise it's got to be silver.

Out of the two at the top I like the white one the best actually, the "clash" between the white car and black wheels/trim makes it look fantastic.

Are they not something bonkers like 120k? It's a nice car but at that price point I would want something exotic or a porker.

Did you ever drive a GT4?

You'd be mad to pay list. Spec of the car I had in mind was 145K but I would take this over a 991 Turbo or Turbo S, far more special and sharper if a little less practical. Market doesn't agree, people have issues with the badge at this price and I get that, but for me it's ALWAYS about the drive and the event, about being special, about making me want to get up at 4am and simply drive. Badges are what other people worry about, which is why I always love driving the MX5 and have a Polo as my station car. I don't care what other people think about what I drive or what I should drive, for the money. Yea for 145K you can get a lot of car, but I would not pay more than 130K for a new one (doable I suspect) and at 110K it is epic value.

The GT4 is fantastic and I've driven one for 5 minutes so hardly experienced it, but it is Porsche at its very best. It is an incredible car, steering, brakes, engine, feel from the very top draw and closest they have got to my 996 GT3, that comes across in 1 mile. However, would you pay 110K for a GT4 when you can have an R8 V10 Plus with 3K miles on the close for mid 80K, which was the position I was in. My answer was simply no, I wont (as you know) pay overs for a car, it just is alien to my DNA. Would I pay 130K for an R8 V10 Plus if I could get a new 991 GT3 for list? No, I'd take the GT3 all day long but I can't get one for list, they are 140K plus so that point is moot.

The market is pathetic for cars at the moment. Speculators are determining the price of these cars. The talking up of the 991 GT3 RS was mad but you know what, I know of maybe 30 people who have 991 GT3 RS's....well I say have I mean had. Most span them back out to the market for 100K overs because the market is mad and they took advantage. Some keep them and track them, but most bought them, drove them home, parked them, sold them.

Guy who owns a ford performance garage along the road from my work has one and he took me for a passenger ride in his yesterday. Standing start with launch control, sport mode, full blast up the gears. I was giggling like a little girl. It was quite an assault on the senses and threw me back in my seat.

The Bang and Olufson sound system in his is also briliant, the sound quality and the bass was amazing.

He's had it on a couple of track days and the rear calipers have turned yellow from heat so they're getting replaced under warranty. I quite like how it had individual tyre temperature monitors as well as pressure. He told me on track they were reading over 100 degrees. And the fact the tyres need replaced imminently with only 3k miles on the clocks tell me its been thrashed hard at the track.

I agree that 110k for the GT4 is too much but they can now be had for 85k to low 90s.

I have always fancied a V10 R8 and I love the look for the new one however I fear that they will be 75k in 2 years which would be quite expensive motoring for me. Having said that I would be only too pleased to buy one at 75k in a couple of years.

Your still welcome to take my GT4 for a proper blast one weekend or evening. It's parked in west london.

If you kept it long enough do you think you'd ever lose out on a Porsche GT car, the way the market has gone though? Especially as naturally aspirated cars that have 'special' engines like the GT3/4 are surely a dying breed...if anything the extra appeal of a 991 GT3 over the regular 991 models (now turbo) is greater than the appeal held by, say, a 997 GT3, over the 997 GTS, back in the day.

I'm sure the market is due some adjustment but are we talking an 18 month dip or a big drop...?

I actually think the real value will sit in the 996 and 997 GT3's, especially the RS models and the RS4.0 will remain 'The One' due to no systems of note, Metzger 4L engine and fantastic set up with ability to tweak till your hearts content.

I think the 991 will be looked back on as the sea change car, when Porsche removed the gearbox it should have had, added in systems to help the driver and though produced an astonishing leap forward in pace, lost something along the way and that engine, though incredible has also gained revs but lost something I can't put my finger on.

I have no idea where they will end up, but I have today seen computer generated pictures of the 991 Gen 2 GT3, not sure if public domain so can't share (might well me, just not checked) and I think that will impact prices of the Gen 1. They are over priced right now, but Porsche is at that place in the market curve right now where they are more buyers than cars because so many people have been told this is the one they NEED.

That is the modern supercar market, but it is a bubble no matter what an OPC, owner or trader seeks to say otherwise. The fact so many GT4's/GT3's and RS's are in their 2nd owners hands, even 3rd, is due to the overs. People taking their profit and you know what, who blames them.

Here is a shot of the cars I went to the Ring with.

Dat McLaren...if I suddenly came into supercar money wealth it would be the car I own first :)

It is a lovely car and he has just had a fruity exhaust fitted. It is quicker than mine under hard acceleration but there is not much in it and I was pushing mine a lot harder on road and track than he was willing to do. Fantastic car though and owner also owned Gibbo's CSL before him, as did my Gastroenterologist funnily enough :D

I think I've only seen one or two in the flesh. One of the best looking cars around if you ask me.

I'm hoping that's the case, as much as I want to buy a GT3 (991) I don't really agree with paying over the odds even thought I came close last month. However, I am waiting to see what happens with the 991.2 (GT3) is released and the madness starts again.

In regards to the GT4's, they have started to come down to more sensible levels but again are still over the odds. As I have a friend who originally had his up for sale now for a few months and its still up for sales but for 5K less than it was first listed and still he has had very little interest.

I have to say, looks wise I love both but I think I actually prefer the older model over the newer one. It just sits with me a little bit better. Though it's irrelevant as I will probably never be able to afford either.

I also found the new one acted very odd twice as the variable set up changed its mind mid overtake...twice. Didn't like that at all and would order one without if I was buying (I am not) as I would go for the standard sports set up.

That sounds insanely dangerous, or was the car trying to save you and get more traction and the feeling just surprised you?

Twice the steerig reacted differently to how I'd expect. It is a variable set up that can and will change the steering ratio based on circumstance but I personally hate that. It's why I hated the sport button on my M3's as all it ever did was change the throttle map from linear to more in the first half of throttle movement. It kidded so many numpties who thought they had more power, different suspension and sharper steering when all it ever did on an E46 M3 was change that throttle map.

The steering in modern cars often seems to come with variable settings and i hate that. First issue was coming over a hump back bridge with a slight turn to the left. It seemed to confuse the car for a millisecond and within any additional steering input the car turned left to the effect I needed to steer right. Worse, I did a rapid overtake of 3 cars on a bumpy but straight road and as I came to the third car in the line again with no steering change it moved me left, close to the final car. Both surprised me and i did some research on forums after the event and seems other owners have also found the odd event. I had that felt wrong in 4 hours. I do not like variable steering or throttle, I want linear and my hands and right foot!

Same, I've been banned from a Z4 Facebook group for letting people know (in a fairly obnoxious way to be fair) the sport button doesn't sharpen suspension settings. I think Fox called Boomer out on his thread when he said he felt the cars handling up when I did a search for Z4M on here as well, so its not just numpties!

Understandable, sounds scary and unpredictable, not features you want when approaching the limit. Maybe Audi aren't prepared for genuinely sporty drivers ;)
