2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers ** Spoilers ** [6th - 11th October 2016]

Holy ****. Breaking news on the BBC! Rooney will be on the bench on tuesday. My world has been turned upside down.

Its pretty clear that the worm has turned lately with Rooney and the media. He has been **** for a few years now and yet up until about a month ago he was still the media darling and any critical piece on Rooney from the mainstream media was either positive or faintly ambivalent. No idea what has changed but hopefully this spells the end of him for club and country.

That just confirms that he will start vs Liverpool a week today  (in a game where he traditionally doesnt perform even when his general form has been decent)

Watford game seemed to be the turning point, it was impossible to gloss over how **** he played. I think that since then people have just been scrutinising his performances more instead of swallowing whatever the commentators and pundits say (or don't say in most cases).

I'm sorry but nothing I have seen from Rooney this season has been any worse than last season or the year before. He has been a massive drag factor on the team for at least 2 seasons now and if the media were honest and unbiased we would have seen criticism like this a long time ago.

Something has changed and I have no idea what it is but it isn't Rooneys performances.

The Watford game was poor even by the standards he has been at in recent years, a non league player would've been embarrassed by it.

If there's some sort of conspiracy to get rid of him who knows? maybe Mourinho made it a conditionality when signing for United that he didn't feature in his plans? maybe him announcing he'll be retiring from international football in 2 years has made the FA realise it's time to back a new horse? maybe it's both?

I just think it's reached a point (the catalyst being Watford) where the media can no longer pull the wool over peoples' eyes.

Nice to hear from the interviewer there, Rooney deserved a rest because he's shouldered the burden of leading England for so long.
