2018 World Darts Championships - PDC + BDO

Crowd are tanked up chavs, it’s funny most proper darts fans I know never even go because of the crowd.

I watch all the tv events and have never wanted to go live, you see way more at home and the crowd are full of idiots.

They’re booing MVG and cheering Cross tonight, wait till the final they’ll be booing the hell out of Cross!

I think Rob Cross has a genuine shot at the title. He's been the best floor player by a long way over the last 12 months, has turned that into success on stage by getting to numerous semis and finals, but of course he has to get past a certain Michael Van Gerwen first.

I've not seen anyone's odds this short to win the title since Taylor's dominance. MVG is 4/6 to win the whole thing, Gary Anderson is 7/1, Peter Wright (he may not play though) 10/1, Phil Taylor 12/1, Rob Cross 14/1 and the rest may as well not bother.

Well..

Great game, I'd say Barney-MvG from two years ago edges it for me on entertainment due to all the ridiculous high checkouts and better crowd (plus being a Barney fan), and that's in spite of me having money on Cross to win the tournament.
Cross-DvdB and Lewis-Wright also top matches.

Interesting thing about Cross is how he steps back after setting up a double, quite unusual to do it so regularly and normally you might expect it to disrupt rhythm. Contrast to MvG who sometimes throws combos so quick the cameraman can't keep up (5, T13, D20 = 84 WTF?)

Wish I'd taken a punt on Cross months ago when it was apparent he was on a massive rise but just couldn't see it in terms of reaching the final, and by the time the draw came out he was quite short as the secret was out and especially as I was concerned about him playing Smith 2nd round who had impressed me of late.

Haha Durrants decent quality on that side but it does tend to have a whiff of watching league one after you’ve had 2 weeks of the premiership!

I treat it as a feeder for the PDC these days, anyone who is any good usually switches.

Half of them trot back to the BDO within 2 years when they realise they aren't as good as they think. I have a lot of respect for the BDO and its setup involving youth and county players, keeping it a civil and enjoyable game but the standard is so far below the PDC.

Worth a punt though due to the money on offer, Norris earned over a quarter of a million quid this year despite not being in the Premier League. Bunting £200k, even old timers like Beaton and Jenkins well into six figures.

Will be interesting to see the PL lineup for next year; you look at the traditional big guns and A.Lewis and Wade have been out of form/fitness, Taylor is retiring. Chisnall, Klaasen and K.Huybrechts have done naff all with their chance.
I'd imagine that Cross and Barney are shoe-ins for wildcards, Mensur as well due to his recent TV title and high ranking. So that leaves 3 spaces up for grabs. Perhaps Whitlock, Smith and Price? Maybe J.Lewis or Van der Bergh off the back of form in WC and giving youth a chance. Then again despite what I said about A.Lewis he is box office and has somehow managed to stay in the top 10, also potential fireworks if Price got picked as well. Also unsure about Whitlock being around in Europe for that long, assume he is based in Aus?
I imagine the PDC want to get a German wildcard in due to expanding the PL into Germany but there aren't any obvious candidates, Max Hopp hasn't kicked on.

MvG
Anderson
Wright
Gurney
----
Cross
Barney
Mensur
Whitlock?
Price?
A.Lewis?

You can’t put a German in, none has done enough. I think this years lineup is going to be awesome.

Don’t count Taylor out for the PL. it’s invitational to a degree and it’s already been mooted that he could be invited.

I think Whitlock lives on the Isle of Wight.
