Had totally forgotten he was at West Ham for 4 years.

I dunno what to make of it, on the one hand it's a cop out and he doesn't fancy the Championship, on the other hand maybe at his age he wants to be a Mr fix it coming in on short term deals, then he's not really got anything to lose "the club was doomed before I took over". A gruelling 46 game season in the dog-eat-dog championship might not be to his liking, no guarantee he'd get out of that division.

It was unfortunate, but it was also on him that his only backup was a completely unproven kid who they spent insane money on. He might come good but having him as your second choice was a bit questionable.
