2021 Australian Open

I think Djokovic is the greatest tennis player of all time but what he tries to do with making his opponents appear more equal than they actually are may cause troubles for him.
At some moment, it's possible that he could lose motivation, he is a showman, though.

1 set all and 4-1 down in the 3rd, medical timeout due soon.

Edit: Medical timeout no longer needed. Smashed his racket, held up play for a few minutes to slow down Zverev and now he's ahead.

Game, set and match Djokovic :p

308 weeks world number 1.
2 more weeks at this position number 1 and will be ahead of Federer's 310 weeks.

Tsitsipas looking the better player against Nadal now, found his rhythm after a slow start. Expect Medvedev to beat whoever makes the semi though.

Great performance from Tsitsipas, his level increased as Nadal's dropped and he wins in 5. Should be a cracking semi with Medvedev

Medvedev has a chance to go up to world number 2 ahead of Nadal if he wins the tournament.
Tsitsipas to world number 5 ahead of Federer if he wins his match against Medvedev.

Thiem is down to world number 4 now.

Djokovic appears to have fully recovered from the horrific muscle tear that nearly ended his tournament in the last round. Powers of recovery are legendary :o

During that game I told my mate to bet on Fritz at 100/1 when he was 2 sets down and Djokovic appeared to be hurt, just in case it was a serious one. He didn't cash out when Fritz became a 1/4 favourite at 2 sets all. Wazzock.

He will be kicking himself if he doesn't surpass Fed/Nad in grand slams because of the US open incident

I think it doesn't matter, really, plus or minus 1 is not important and also we can't be sure that he would have won it regardless of that incident.
2020 was the worst year, Wimbledon got cancelled - that was a much bigger loss for the whole tennis world.

Djokovic has other records to pursue - higher number of week number 1s, for example.

Murray getting to number 1 in 2016 was arguably a bigger achievement simply because he broke the stranglehold the big three had on the top spot for so long. Still, it's a worthless accolade compared to titles won.

"He is currently ranked as world No. 1 by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP). Djokovic has been No. 1 for 308 weeks, and has finished as year-end No. 1 on six occasions, an Open Era record shared with Pete Sampras. Djokovic has won 17 Grand Slam men's singles titles, including a record eight Australian Open titles. He is the only player to win all of the elite tournaments on the modern ATP Tour – that is, all four Grand Slam tournaments, all nine ATP Masters 1000 tournaments, and the ATP Finals. In particular, he is also the only player to complete the career Golden Masters, which he has done twice. Overall, he has won 81 ATP singles titles, including a record eight Australian Open titles and a record 36 Masters events.

Djokovic began his professional career around the time Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal established themselves as the two dominant players in men's tennis. At age 20, he interrupted their streak of 11 consecutive majors to win his first Grand Slam singles title at the 2008 Australian Open. By 2010, Djokovic also separated himself from the rest of men's tennis to join Federer and Nadal in the Big Three, the group of players who have dominated men's tennis through the end of the next decade.[a] In 2011, Djokovic was ranked No. 1 for the first time, winning three out of four majors and his first five Masters events of the year. He remained the best player in men's tennis for the rest of the decade, leading the tour in major and Masters titles, and winning four out of his five titles at the ATP Finals consecutively from 2012 through 2015. After four consecutive year-end finishes at No. 3 through 2010, Djokovic finished No. 1 six times and No. 2 three times in the next ten years.

Djokovic had another career year in 2015, reaching fifteen consecutive finals, including all four major finals and eight Masters finals, winning three majors and six Masters events as well as the ATP Finals. The following year, he won the 2016 French Open to complete the career Grand Slam. He also became the first male player since Rod Laver in 1969 to hold all four major titles at once and the only male player in history to do so on three different surfaces. After long trailing both Federer and Nadal in their head-to-head records, Djokovic has since taken the lead against them. Representing Serbia, Djokovic has led the Serbia Davis Cup team to their first title in 2010, and also led Serbia to a title at the inaugural ATP Cup in 2020. He won a bronze medal in singles at the 2008 Beijing Olympics."

Medvedev's come back from 2-0 before against Nadal but his head's gone today. First set was key but it's one way traffic now.

Should be an 18th title but all the talk leading up to the match was about the use of MTO's and faking injuries, yet again.
