2023 - how's it been for you?

Bad: Lost my job as a Pharmacist store Manager due to store closure, got offered another pharmacy in a rough area.

Good: Step down and cut ties with management role, cut working hours and days and enjoy new found freedom at both work and home.

Worst year in a very long time, Left a job after 17 years due to horrendous management level changes (a real ******** in charge) Only lasted 3 months in my new job before Depression and Anxiety absolutely crippled me, unemployed and getting plenty of support for the rest of the year. Just applied for a job back in IT a couple of days ago so lets hope 2024 treats me a bit better.

Having received the news this month that the mother in law has terminal brain cancer, and the prognosis is 8-12 months, both 2023 and 2024 are likely to be rather cack overall.

To add insult to injury the MIL is the last of either of our parents, and by extension the last grandparent in the family. We lost my mum in late 2021 and both our fathers have been gone since 2009.

I didn’t expect to be facing this quite so soon given the prognosis, but here we are 3 months later and the wife is sat in the hospice by her mum’s side, waiting for the inevitable.

I’ve just tried to explain the situation to an almost 3 year old and I just can’t make it sink in whilst trying to keep it as light-hearted as possible.

Really sorry to hear this update. No easy way for you to help anyone understand unfortunately.

Good luck to you all for what’s sure to be an unpleasant time ahead.

When my grandad died my sister was trying to explain it to her 3 year old, how people get old and die. After the funeral back at the house she was knelt down cleaning up the toys and got up going "oof I'm getting old", her daughter was in floods of tears - took us awhile to twig.
