206 Climate control problems

Hi Guys

A friend of mine has a 206 1.4 which has climate control. A few months ago it started blowing on full all the time and it couldn’t be turned off. The only control allowed by the control panel was either fully hot or fully cold. She took it to a garage and they somehow disconnected it so although the control panel displays as normal nothing works.

Now I’m thinking about just buying a new climate control panel as you can get them off eBay for around £40 but do you think that will resolve the issue ? Any Pug nuts here who could help me

Hiya,

My old (02) 206 HDI had this problem. If it is digital aircon(climate control) then the chances are that you need a new blower motor, these have the resistor pack built in (silver hedgehog bit). That cured mine and as far as I know it is still running. Easy enough to do yourself. Remove the glove box being careful not to snap the brakelight switch which is attached to the bottom of the glovebox mount. Find motor, which is in behind the radio(ish) reach up and under from glove box, twist to release and release plug.

Part listed may not be correct for that car, it would fit my old one.

If it isn't digital aircon then you can buy the resistor pack seperately with no need for a new blower.

Yeah so digital aircon (climate control).

Your fault description is exactly what happened to mine, would either blow on full or nothing. Could change the temperature but not the fan speed. occasionally it wouldn't switch off at all.

Definately sounds like the resistor pack (hedgehog) which comes attached to the blower motor. NOT the control panel.

Think this may be the one, am sure you can find it cheaper - must come with hedgehog attached to blower:

I expect the garage just unplugged the blower motor as I did exactly the same because it is so loud.

EDIT: What reg is it? If after 2002 then it will be multiplexed so the listed part will be correct.

Heater Motor

All cars are designed with a heater fan motor that pushes air through the venting system. This air is processed by a series of vents to direct the air to various positions. For example, heater, air conditioner or defrost modes. Most heater motors are powered by a basic electrical circuit that utilizes a multi resistor or a solid state resistor to control different fan speeds (low, medium & high). If the resistor malfunctions then only circuit remaining is the high speed setting.

Its an 02 mate, i called Euro car parts and they have said thats the correct one

Just trying to find it cheaper now
 
Hi

Out of interest she took it to a garage recently and they some how disabled it from working. The display still shows but it does nothing. Do you guys think its just a simple fuse that needs putting back in, how else can it have been disabled

When you say remove the glovebox i assume you mean moving the glovebox door / innards ? i managed to get under the glovebox and found they had simply unplugged the 2 x connectors to the blower motor. re connected and as predicted its just blowing on full all the time. Going to order a new one, did you say its just twist and clicked on or do i have to remove screws etc. It looks a bit of a nightmare

Could do with some help removing the glovebox, im attempting this tomorrow ;-)
 
Sorry I didn't notice this, for some reason my subscriptions aren't working.

You will need to take out the glovebox so you may as well empty it first.

You need to take the cover/lid off the glovebox. Open it but dont let it all way down just pull it out while it's still vertical otherwise it doesnt come out.

Then you need to take out the screws behind the glovebox cover/lid with the T20 (torx) screwdriver and also if you look closely there is another screw inside the glovebox liner facing upwards, ( I missed that for a while! )

Ok once you have taken all of those out you should be able to push the glovebox liner down and out there will be some wires attached to the left hand side, detach them taking note of how they go in - think this is for the glovebox light.

I think the brake light switch is located on the glovebox housing beneath the liner, so you need to unclip this before you push the glovebox down and out otherwise you will snap it off.

Right glovebox out!

Now you need to take out the fan blower.

What you need to do is stick your torch and head in behind the glovebox and if you look as if towards the central console but from behind you will see a round looking object with one screw in - this should look identical to your new one.

You need to take that screw out and then turn the thing clockwise. ( This will be really really tight so you need to twist hard, it took me a good few attempts )

Once you have dislodged it there is a clip that goes into the top of the fan for the power, you must take that out and then pull the blower out.

Once you have done that, then just unplug it out of the socket and then plug the new one in, then push it back to where it was and twist it back to lock it into place.

Put the fan back in and plug the wire in making sure you dont get the wire caught in the air duct.

Screw the fan screw back in.

Replace glovebox!

You're done!

Nope ordered that part and fitted it last night, only took me about 30 mins and it solved the problem :-)

No problem. Stupidly expensive part for what it is though, such is life in a French car I suppose.
