2080 vs 1080Ti ~ 1080Ti a better card?

Easily, RTX 2080, similar price with 2080 launching maybe 75-100 cheaper while being ~20%? faster. [looking at history 980ti to 1080. You can safely bet it's gonna be very similar increase in perf. Nvidia specifically targets that, so it looks attractive for Ti owners]

Despite all the pessimism surround Nvidia business practices, I highly doubt they’d launch the vanilla 2080 and it not exceed the 1080Ti, even if it’s nothing outstanding....there is no way they’d stand up on stage with a new card that’s gone backwards in performance.

I’d expect 20-30% tops (more like 20)

I'd wait for proper release etc on Monday as no point ordering anything on a saturday evening in that scenario. Why base a decision on 'close to reality' when you can have 'reality' in under 48hrs?

I aint sure, the 2080 looks like it could be similar in performance to the 1080ti - give or take 5 or 10% which is nowt. It also has less ram, not that it might matter much.
Until the cards are properly tested we wont really know.

8gb vram is abit stingy, rise of the tomb raider loads up about 9.7gb on my 1080ti (4k) but on the whole not many games are vram hungry, not yet anyway.

I've got a feeling that this series of cards are just a quick filler before the 7nm releases, wouldn't bother upgrading until then.

I understand it's been a long time, but just wait 2 more days. Right now this is just pointless, nobody knows what's going to happen. Do something else with your time.

Plus this is a new architecture, you can't simply check frequencies and cuda cores and come up with something.

Yes but he didn’t indicate he was looking to buy right now
Exactly:D
I'm looking for opinions in advance because you fellas know more than me. As evidenced by my concern that I might be better off buying a 1080Ti. I want as much info as possible in advance of the mad scramble for cards. Then if either the 1080Ti or the 2080 is £500 ish or under I want to buy.

I wouldn't upgrade from a 1080ti to the 2080 anyway... just seems like very negligible gain.

I'm a new buyer and would opt for the newer gen card as historically they end up beating the older ones.

The second hand market regardless will be flooded with 1080/Tis.

I think one good reason to go from 1080ti to vanilla 2080 would be because of the concern Nvidia might nerf drivers for last gen

How bad is the nerf in reality? Peeps are still raving about 900 series in other threads

I have a feeling this time around the new XX80 card will be slower than the old 1080 Ti.

Also if the specs above are to be believed the 2080 has less memory than the 1080 ti which means it could end up like the Fury X where the new 4gb is 8gb.

But still, informed opinion is still nowhere near as good as fact tomorrow. There'll still be a massive discussion on here about the facts :D

Really, you should factor in heat and energy consumption too as that's always a big chance from one generation to the next. Unless you're running water and literally don't care about energy use.
