Just resurrecting as looking for thoughts on swapping from my 2080ti FE to a 4070 Super? Since i originally posed this question about moving to a 4070 ive also changed from 1080p to 1440p
i was kinda thinking that re VRAM, i guess if i wait for next gen then it give me more time to save money for Nvidia's rapey prices. Still never paid more than £200 for a card lol12gb is borderline in some games at 1440p now, either go 4070 ti super or wait for next gen.
I've been toying with the same idea. I'm rocking an old 2080ti and have got the itch. It still runs things well though so I'm wondering if to wait until the next gen.Just resurrecting as looking for thoughts on swapping from my 2080ti FE to a 4070 Super? If its still holding up then best to hang on, we'll probably be getting around 4080 performance and 16gb VRAM for £600 in a year.I've been toying with the same idea. I'm rocking an old 2080ti and have got the itch. It still runs things well though so I'm wondering if to wait until the next gen.
Damn you and your sensible reasoning! If its still holding up then best to hang on, we'll probably be getting around 4080 performance and 16gb VRAM for £600 in a year.
4070 super remember, so it's about another 10-15% faster than a 4070.2080ti approx 3070
4070 approx a 3080
so you're in effect going from a 3070 to a 3080 in rasterisation performance
obvs you'd gain more from ray tracing
but is this move worth it? personally, no
yes indeedEdit: missed the thread resurrection.

and the OP's question changed from a 4070 to a 4070S along with the res:
happens to the best of usCaught me off guard!
I disliked the original RTX 4070, because of it's unimpressive performance.
On the other hand, the RTX 4070 Super has much improved performance... You can get an additional 6% (approx.) performance improvement according to Techpowerup, from overclocking as well (on the Founders Edition).
The TDP is actually a bit lower than the RTX 2080 TI, which seems quite power efficient.
But, it's too expensive unfortunately, especially considering that this generation is an iterative improvement over the Ampere series.
If you can get one for £400-£450 used, that would be a reasonable price for this kind of performance.
