£20k - BMW 330e MSport Pro - Suitable?

For me the g20 was fine on the motorway, easily mid 40’s. It wasn’t great locally 27-30mpg. This is purely on petrol.

I have a 2019 G20 320i Msport I bought a few years ago, second hand, BMW main dealer AUC. At the time it only had 24k miles on it. Was also looking at a 330e as well for the same reasons you mention - lots available, attractive with more performance. I had an 3ltr diesel Audi A4 in Germany (around 260hp), and was faffing around for ages working out if i should get a 330e or 320 over here almost purely on performance merits, but also range. In the UK, honestly I don't need anything more. The 320i is perfectly fine for all types of driving and has enough umph for this country the vast majority of drives. Economy - i get around 46mpg mixed motorway and A roads. Long motorway journeys is in low 50s. Over 500 miles in a tank. I've taken it over to Germany 4 times so far and it'll sit perfectly fine at 170>180 kmh (105 > 110mph) for as long as. Anything over that and it sucks fuel (like most cars do) and gets uncomfortable tbh. Add in 3 passengers and luggage though and it will start to feel a bit sluggish at times.

What I really wanted was a 330i, but there were none available at the time.. just tons of 330e's.

Avoid diesels for such a low mileage per annum is my only advice, otherwise it's what they want.

It does depend a little; if you're using a diesel only for 30 minute+ higher speed runs, they should be fine. If you're WFH, and walking to the shops, so the car only does longer trips on the weekend then your annual mileage might be low - and yet a diesel could be ideal.

But then, I got burned by this - lots of long runs in my last car, and still DPF / EGR issues plagued it.

I think the sheer choice of the 330e is making it a winner. Because they really want the pro package and the HK audio, getting that in any other guise seems like trying to find a unicorn. What would be ideal is to be able apply a keyword to watch out for that was consistent. The old 530i Champagne Edition models spring to mind.

Is this the right spec?

Yes it is. Thanks. Very annoying when some models are listed under model variant as ‘M Sport Pro’ while others are listed as ‘M Sport’ but then mention in the description the have the pro pack fitted.

The reason for this is because there were two different ways of having an M Sport with the Pro Package.

You could pick an M Sport and add the Pro Package as an option, at a cost of £2500. Alternatively, you could pick the M Sport Pro Edition which included the Pro Pack as standard, but cost £4500 more than the M Sport.

The main difference between the two is that the M Sport Pro Edition was available in 3 unique paint colours (two greys and a dark blue) which were only available on the M Sport Pro Edition, (and the M340i or the M340d) and this was included in the price of the Pro Edition. There were a few other small things you got with the M Sport Pro Edition but not the M Sport Pro Pack, I think it's black mirror covers and a different type of aluminium interior trim?

But, essentially, whether you go for an M Sport Pro or an M Sport with Pro Pack will be dependant on the colour of the car, if this makes sense. You can't have an M Sport Pro Edition unless it's one of the three unique colours and you can't have those colours unless its an M Sport Pro Edition.

could join mercedes club for ~20K 300de
potential for better mpg outside electric - rwd still, their accoladed burmeister sound, more torque, looks like some have air suspension

fairly numerous too.

That is some excellent bearding, sir!

I have the 330e touring M sport with the tech and pro pack (2023). So all the goodies and the cream leather interior. I also optioned the larger 19” wheels as the 18”s are too small.

It’s bloody brilliant. Fast, comfortable, very well built, a wonderful cruiser, more than big enough for me and great for tax of course.

I charge it every day for less than a few quid on my drive and would have another in a heart beat.

Silent when I want it to be and very rapid when I need it to be. It’s also lovely inside.

I have had to get used to adapting my driving around the xtraboost system to get the most out of it but it’s a great feature.

Thanks all. Very useful info. I will check out the merc 300de but don’t think they’ll like the styling.

This however is very much up their street (and again, not at all my thing) but would appreciate any knowledgable feedback other than ‘chavvy’ etc.

Thanks, this does make sense and has helped massively in finding a balance, which for them I think is probably pack + HK audio either as an option or part of a package. Pro Edition with the HK audio seem very rare.

This is because the M Sport Pro Edition is only available from 2021 onwards and unfortunately coincided with the component shortage which saw the stereo removed from the 3 Series range unless you were ordering an M340i or an M340d. This means many Pro Editions were built during this time and won't have the stereo.

If you're happy to look a 2020 car instead you will find... the M Sport Plus pack for the normal M Sport and the M Sport Plus Edition, which comes in 3 special paint colours and... you get the idea. They seem to have basically changed the name and made a few changes but fundamentally, 2019 and 2020 cars are Plus and 2021-2023 cars are Pro...

Advert says the car has 19" 793M wheels, which is clearly wrong. Also having replica wheels on mis-matched ditch finders is a big red flag for me, not to mention the diffuser with rain light. By all means go and check it out, but I'd be very ready to walk away.

I looked at a few cars from that dealer before I bought my 435i. If you read through their reviews there's a few that comments that suggest they specialise in bolting aftermarket tat on to a lot of their cars.

When I've looked on autotrader it seems the used prices of the 320i and 330e aren't much different at all (and both less than the 330i of course), just simply due to the sheer number of 330e's about from the company car tax savings.

A lot of 330e will be coming of lease as they are 3/4/5 years old, so that’s why there’s a glut of them.
