20th Century fox vs Newzbin

OpenDNS and VM were showing the downed page earlier, OpenDNS fine now and I'm logged in with my usual account :)

Feel free to post the IP then, cba to sign up to OpenDNS. Googles free DNS still points to the old site.

OpenDNS not working for me, what is going on!

Edit: There it is! 85.112.165.70

The IP won't work will it if your ISP DNS has yet to refresh.

85.112.165.70 is what I have too but I use OpenDNS DNS servers, you all should too as it's just better.

Meh works for me. I thought the whole point of DNS was to translate addresses to IP's, not to route.

What software do you guys use?

Robbie, Virgin have free newsgroups?

Surely Virgin don't offer all the services that come with other services?

Astraweb with SABnzbd here.

Perfect combination, just have to download NZB into a watch folder and SABnzbd will download what ever appears in there. Extracts everything as well. :)

Don't they also limit what stuff you can get from them? Many years ago when I was with NTL you had no chance of getting any copyright stuff.

As mentioned, no restrictions, just a 7 day retention and thus perfect for getting your latest TV/*cough* fix. For older stuff Astraweb jumps into action =]

Is it just me of was the whole court case more of a massive advert for how good usenet was for those that didn't know, rather than a victory for RIAA MPAA. Infact, the more public they get about it, the more normal people seem to realise they can stop buying dvd boxsets and get their nephew to get it for them and burn it. Its kind of hilarous.

Personally I gave up with Grabit and actually PAID for Newsbin Pro(is it not defeating the purpose of stealing stuff, to pay for the software to do it :p ) . Grabit since I moved to Windows 7 seems to crash constantly and over the past couple years will often hang, bug out and max out one core and need process to be killed. Used it for 5-6 years with no issues before that. Newsbin pro honestly works absolutely perfectly for me, Grabits repair/unrar was a big buggy, ignored some files and crashed doing it quite often, again Newsbin pro handles that great.

Use Newshosting aswell, cheap, not the absolute cheapest but very rare outages or incomplete files.

This thread is the first I've heard of Newzbin, so at least some publicity has come of it. A sobering warning in the defendant being shredded by lawyers however.

On a brighter note, I think an alternative site running the same code turning up after a fortnight, and happy to honour previous credit, is hilarious. So this marks a conclusive win for Fox in court, made irrelevant shortly afterwards.

I'm not condoning or encouraging piracy, merely falling about with laughter at how ineffectual this attack on it has been.
