I will not be updating this anymore as I sold my 21:9 monitor now & bought a 40" 16:9 4K Phillips instead so someone else will have to update this going forward.

Thought I would start this thread as 21:9 Ultra Wide is becoming popular but many PC games have issues with it:

I am talking about 2560x1080 when I comment or post info as that is my resolution on my LG 34" UM65 2560x1080 @ 60Hz.

2560x1080 @ 21:9 = 64:27 or 2.37037
Go to this page for a handy tool to calculate your FOV:
http://www.wsgf.org/fovcalc.php

The following games I personally tested have native ingame 21:9 support this means you do not need to do anything for them to look at the correct aspect ratio other than select the resolution in the game menu. However FOV is subjective to me they looked just fine & I am very picky but some have minor HUD stretching few games stretch the FOV to match the aspect ratio so its down to personal preference if you want 21:9 with minor HUD stretching or a 16:9 aspect ratio like 1920x1080 with black pillow boxes either side of the image. There is no perfect solution as GPU scaling will just fill the screen with a distorted image.

Most of these games however have menus, ingame cutscenes, pre-rendered videos + cutscenes rendered @ 16:9 aspect ratio only so the screen may change shape at times when these are playing. You cannot alter this unless you want stretched content as they were only created @ 16:9.

Alan Wake
Alan Wakes American Nightmare
Aliens Colonial Marines
Alien: Isolation (native 21:9 ingame only cutscenes are 16:9)
Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY + Original
Batman Arkham City GOTY + Original
Batman Arkham Origins
Battlefield 3
Battlefield 4
Brothers A Tale of 2 Sons
Crysis 3
Castlevania Lords Of Shadows Ultimate Edition
Dead Space 1
Dead Space 2
Dead Space 3
Deadfall Adventures
Dear Esther
Devil May Cry 5
Dirt 3 Complete Edition (Steamworks)
Elite Dangerous
Fallout 3 (you need to edit the ini files as launcher is hard coded): http://www.wsgf.org/dr/fallout-3
Fallout New Vegas (you need to edit the ini files as launcher is hard coded): http://www.wsgf.org/dr/fallout-new-vegas/en
Gauntlet (2014) 2560x1080 is native otherwise you need to edit the config file for 3440x1440
GTA V - Native 21:9. Cutscenes are 1920x1080 16:9 as expected.
Half Life 2: Update
Half Life 2 + Episodes 1+2
Hard Reset
Hard Reset EX
Lego Indiana Jones 1 + 2
Lego Batman 1 + 2
Lego Batman 3 (maintitlescreen cutscene has wrong aspect ratio otherwise all ingame cutscenes & the maingame content are native 21:9)
Lego Movie Videogame
Lords Of The Fallen
Max Payne 3 (some cutscenes are not full screen this is by design)
Metro Last Light
Metro Last Light Redux (some minor hud elements are stretched 16:9 only)
Metro 2033 Redux (some minor hud elements are stretched 16:9 only)
Middle Earth Shadow Of Mordor (16:9 cutscenes)
Need For Speed The Run
Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2010
Portal 2
Prince of Persia 2008 (looks amazing as it has native 21:9 support although main menu is 16:9)
Ryse Son of Rome (some prendered cutscenes are 16:9 but ingame cutscenes are 21:9)
Shadow Warrior 2013
Tomb Raider 2013
Wolfenstein The New Order
Wolfenstein The Old Blood

The following can be made to work with 21:9 but require mods or 3rd part programs like Flawless Widescreen or Widescreenfixer to force the aspect ratio:
http://www.flawlesswidescreen.org/
https://www.widescreenfixer.org/

Dark Souls 2 DX9 version (play offline only to avoid VAC ban as the memory hack is detected as such & bannable if Steam is in online mode)
Dark Souls 1 (http://3dsurroundgaming.com/WSF.html)
Call of Duty Advanced Warfare SP only - needs Widescreen Fixer for 21:9 in SP only if you try it in MP you will probably get a VAC ban!
Call of Duty Ghosts SP only - needs Flawlesswindescreen for 21:9 in SP only if you try it in MP you will probably get a VAC ban!
COD MW3
Castlevania LOS2
NFS Rivals
Ori And The Blind Forest
Resident Evil 4,5,6
Silent Hill 3
Dead Rising 2
Dead Rising 2 OTR
Bioshock1
Bioshock2
Dead Rising 3
Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition
The Vanishing Of Ethan Carter
The Evil Within
Splinter Cell Conviction (my working 21:9 solution is here:) http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=26562363&postcount=17

The following require config file mods only but have issues with missing video or incorrect aspect ratio/FOV:

Star Wars Force Unleashed1

The following only work 16:9 @ 1920x1080 anything higher is stretched & looks ugly/ridiculous:

Alice Madness Returns - Has builtin protection against mem hacks altering FOV/Aspect Ratio so cannot support 21:9 as it crashes constantly with any mem hacks or mods. There is a solution to this now though read about it here:
http://www.wsgf.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=27461
Batman Akham Origins Blackgate HD
Castlevania Lords of Shadow Mirror of Fate HD
Castle Of Illusion HD
Deadlight
Lifeless Planet (this will support 21:9 when the Unity Engine 4 update is released in the next few months)
Limbo
Monkey Island 1 + 2
Never Alone (videos support 21:9 ingame is 16:9 pillowboxed. I emailed the devs to see if they can fix it as this game engine supports 21:9!)
Resident Evil HD Remaster
Star Wars Force Unleashed 2 (ingame supports 2560x1080 @ 21:9 but all videos are missing all you get is a blackscreen).

This website is supposed to be a place to put all this info but most of it is out of date I cannot even register to contribute! & sadly PC gamers who own 21:9 are not updating it very often so its a nightmare if your game does not support 21:9. Several Unreal Engine games do not display 21:9 ingame even though they should so its up to PC gamers to update this thread here on OCUK if you find any useful info to share. I have only talked about games I own there are many more obviously & if you have the time go to this website & share with others!

Resi 5 and 6 work 2560x1080 native.
Although their UI gets a little messed up.

I didn't know there were mods to fix dead rising though, so that's good!.

Although anything that only works 16:9 I tend to stream to Laptop on the 27".
Or 1920x1080 @ 16:9 with pillow boxes is same size display as a 27" 16:9.

Ghostbusters The Video Game (2009) has native 21:9 support although menus & some hud elements are 16:9 only or rendered offscreen.

All ingame engine & pre-rendered movies are true 21:9 from what I can see so it fills the screen & aspect ratio looks correct.

Managed to fix Splinter Cell Conviction :D ;): (Uplay only version)

1: Goto C:\ProgramData\Ubisoft\Conviction
2: Edit the following part of ConvictionUserPC.ini

[Engine.Display]
AdapterNumber=0
DisableShaderOptims=True
UseTripleBuffering=False
ForceGpuCount=0
MaxFPS=120
EyefinityMode=0
ForceMultiMon=True
MinTripleDispRatio=2.3

Old default values:
EyefinityMode=2
ForceMultiMon=False
MinTripleDispRatio=3.9

MinTripleDispRatio must = less than your aspect ratio so for me my aspect ratio is 21:9 which = 2.3

FMV's are slightly stretched now but at least the main game fills the screen otherwise you have to play with large black pillowboxes either side which look dumb @ 2560x1080. You can also re-encode these bink video files with the free Rad Video Tools so they are not stretched anymore just resize & re-encode them to fit your display with black borders some are actually 2.3 aspect ratio already but some are stretched badly.

If you own the Steam version the path is:
Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction\src\system\ConvictionUserPC.ini

Noticed you've got Fallout 3 and New Vegas listed as having native support in the menus.

Can't find these options anywhere, stuck with 1920/1080 max, doesn't list the aspect ratio under the optin menu either.?

Any help
Follow these guide's you have to manually edit the ini file then it works ok. Its native support but the launcher is hard coded to not allow some settings. Also I found the default FOV is fine with 21:9 but some people say it distorts certain artwork I cannot see that its all personal preference really 75 FOV looks ok @ 21:9 but some people insist it needs to be changed:

http://www.wsgf.org/dr/fallout-3
http://www.wsgf.org/dr/fallout-new-vegas/en

You can edit the default ini files in the main game folders then it will show up in the launcher!

Dead Rising 3 needs the following mod to support 21:9

Not my solution someone from Steam Forums

http://steamcommunity.com/app/265550/discussions/0/613935404026325793/

Open the File "viewport.txt" in your Installed Folder "Steam\SteamApps\common\Dead Rising 3\data\datafile\" and put this into Viewport.txt:

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////

cViewportShape MainView_16x9
{
X = "0"
Y = "0"
Width = "1"
Height = "1"
Aspect="1.777777778"
}

cViewportShape MainView_21x9
{
X = "0"
Y = "0"
Width = "1"
Height = "1"
Aspect="2.383333333"
}

cViewportShape MainView_16x10
{
X = "0"
Y = "0"
Width = "1"
Height = "1"
Aspect="1.600000000"
}

cViewportShape MainView_4x3
{
X = "0"
Y = "0"
Width = "1"
Height = "1"
Aspect="1.333333333"
}

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Just been trying this program, seems nice!

However, any risk of getting banned from MP games for using this? edit: Guy says it could be seen as a hack so won't use it for any MP games.

edit:

wow, tried it out in FC3, I thought default FC 3 looked good enough but with this program, DAMN! :cool:
Yep its possible to get banned if it uses VAC or Punkbuster as most of the mods use memory hacks so are picked up as cheating aids & Activision consider using mods on COD to correct 21:9 FOV an unfair advantage :rolleyes:

Update on Dead Rising 3.

Even when you mod to 21:9 some of the ingame FX like screen turning red when your close to death or the vehicle your in is almost destroyed only fill the 16:9 shape area in the center of the screen they do not scale to 21:9 even though the game looks fine @ 21:9.

Alien Isolation has ingame native 21:9 all cutscenes rendered in the game engine though are forced 16:9 for now until somone mods it if its possible!

The Evil Within- needs Flawless Widescreen to have 21:9 support otherwise its fixed 16:9 & large black letterboxes. With flawless widescreen plugin it looks great IMO!

If the image is larger than 1280 pixels wide please resize, link only or put in spoiler tags. Thank you.

I can't seem to get BF4 to work in 3440x1440. It just zooms in to one corner & I can't see a thing.

What am I doing ?

This is a screenie from my supposed 3440x1440 game...

Pq3cWDo.jpg

Thats actual size btw. The screenshot came out at 1280x720
It has native 21:9 support you need to look at your GPU settings see what GPU scaling is set to.

In the BF4 options menu what is aspect ratio set to?

What GPU do you have how much VRam does it have?

Tried all the scaling options on my monitor & in the nVidia control panel. Nothing made any difference :(

Can't see an option for aspect ratio in the menus.

Running 2 Titans, so 6GB :confused:

This is what I'm running at in game

I think I may have to delve into the inis myself by the look of it...
Must be something minor I only have 2560x1080 21:9 BF4 worked fine for me natively. Lots of people play @ 3440x1440 21:9.

I presume your using a decent DisplayPort Cable as that appears to be the only way to play certain games because of the extra bandwidth vs HDMI?

You sure your Nvidia Control Panel settings are for:
Scaling Mode=No Scaling
Perform Scaling on GPU

There is also an override option in there to force it might be worth trying that.

Lego Batman 3 - ingame 21:9 support works. But main title cutscene is broken with forced 16:9 aspect ratio which is also vert - when using 21:9 (the other Lego games had perfect 21:9 support :( ). Ingame engine cutscenes are correct @ 21:9 though.
