21:9 Aspect Ratio PC Games info

Lords Of The Fallen- Ingame native 21:9. Menus & Cutscenes are 16:9 format though. Stunning looking game :D but needs serious GPU power  and avoid as its highly unstable I got a refund from Steam & would advise against buying this game or supporting the developer!

Lara Croft & The Guardian Of Light - Edit the registry as follows at your own risk be very careful you do not delete or change the wrong setting: Also make a note of the old settings before changing these.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Crystal Dynamics\Lara Croft: GoL\Graphics\AspectRatio=23703 (Decimal)

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Crystal Dynamics\Lara Croft: GoL\Graphics\FullScreenModeID=3c438A00 (Hex)

The formula is:
AspectRatio (decimal) = Width Divided by Height x 10000
FullScreenModeID (hexadecimal) = a complex key that includes refresh rate, height and width

Example: 2560x1080 (21:9), 60 Hz
Dec >>> Hex
60 >>> 3C
1080 >>> 438
2560 >>> A00
So the registry values would be:
AspectRatio 23703 (2560 divided by 1080=2.37037037037037 x 10000= 23703
FullScreenModeID 3c438A00

Formula came from this webpage here:

Aspect Ratio still looks slightly wrong to me ingame & many elements are 16:9 stretched/squashed so this older title only has partial 21:9 support IMO & the sequel is out next week using the same game engine lets see if that is any better as Tomb Raider 2013 had native 21:9 support.

Disney's Tron Evolution (2011)

Edit Grid Engine.ini resolution to:
ResX=2560
ResY=1080

Then the game displays @ 21:9. Cutscenes & menus are still 16:9 but ingame is almost perfect @ 21:9 there is a small area top of the screen which is partially offscreen you need to find the ini setting to disable that or use a slightly lower resolution than 2560x1080.

Lara Croft & The Temple Of Osiris - forced 16:9 aspect ratio only regardless of resolution even though Guardian of Light supported 21:9 via a registry change the developers have removed that option from Temple Of Osiris

21:9 native but some minor hud elements are stretched 16:9 only its barely noticeable though ;)

Metro Last Light Redux
Metro 2033 Redux

Call of Duty Advanced Warfare - needs Widescreen Fixer plugin for 21:9. Otherwise the game is stretched 16:9 & looks horrendous!

Has support for flawless widescreen stopped?

Been ages now since new games have been added and they are extremely popular ones too i.e. COD, FC 4

Getting very fed up with the lack of 21.9 support for games now, tempted to just get a 27" 16.9 2560x1440 screen...
Who knows he is very quiet right now. Just shows you just how dependant 21:9 is on 2 modders when games do not support it natively

I am also considering selling mine as so many new games are ignoring anything except 16:9 aspect ratio :(

The problem is there are few decent alternatives the other screen techs have issues you just cannot get a perfect large screen. The 32" & 40" 16:9 models have banding & random PWM white flickering issues so for me to upgrade from my 34" I am stuck I would have to downgrade as I have seen some issues on other models which I would not want to have.

I would estimate based on what I have seen you only have about a 30% chance of new PC games supporting 21:9 natively.

Someone uploaded a modded file for 21:9 but it shows the missing artwork which was not created for anything other than 16:9 aspect ratio many of the levels contain blank spaces with the 21:9 extra width. Also the camera has now moved back a long way making the characters tiny so its a very poor fix shame on the developers for removing the native 21:9 registry support on this game engine

How come 21.9 displays dont have inbuilt scalers to just scale to this aspect ratio
They do as do modern GPU's you can scale any aspect ratio to fit any monitor made but the results are not great unless the game is built for 21:9 you are better off with a 16:9 image with black bars left & right.

Resident Evil HD Remaster - Forced 16:9 @ 1920x1080 support only although you can edit the file below to support 2560x1080 or 3440x1440 it will only display the 16:9 image due to the pre-rendered backgrounds.

C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\CAPCOM\Resident Evil - biohazard@HD REMASTER

Looking at getting a 21:9 at some point - is playing in 16:9 for games that support it that big of a deal or is it just fine?
You get large black pillars left & right handside of the screen you can stretch the image but it looks distorted & horrible. Its not too bad with the black bars as the IPS screen is quite pretty you soon forget it really.

I would prefer all PC games to support 21:9 but it seems like its going to be a niche resolution for some time to come as most devs ignore it totally sadly :(

PC devs are getting lazier all the time their CBA to support 21:9 natively is costing them sales @ full price most 21:9 owners I know will not buy a PC game @ full price if it does not support 21:9 natively. The 21:9 modders like HaYDen have had enough it seems as well no new 21:9 mods from him this year just fixes to existing mods.

All the PC devs have to do is either zoom in on the image a little & or adjust their FOV calculator so it looks @ resolution x aspect ratio to display the correct FOV!

If GTA5 does not support 21:9 natively I am probably done with my 21:9 LG forever (I emailed the PC devs for GTA5 back in Sept 2014 to request 21:9 support so they know about it but never reply).

21:9 is a great aspect ratio but at this rate its going to be 10 years before it ever becomes a PC mainstream resolution :(

DARK SOULS™ II: Scholar of the First Sin - 21:9 support is now fixed by HaYDen but for now you need to set your desktop to 1920x1080 as it only works for windowed mode not full screen mode he has to do more work on that.

Without people like HaYDen 21:9 would be over before its even started as so many devs are too lazy to implement it. LG, Samsung, Dell etc etc ahould sponsor HaYDen to do these fixes ;)
