21 games to launch on 360 on demand.

If they bring new titles at the same cost as retail then it will work, otherwise no one is going to buy these over ebay really.

Hmmm prices are to high to outway the ease of having it on the HDD and not swapping dvds, saw Mass Effect for £5 used on Saturday.

What the piffle? How can they bump up the British price by 800 points? I just bought Mass Effect for my PC instead for a tenner.

HD space will become less of an issue in time.

The new NXE update next week apparently reduces a lot of 360 games by up to 40%++ as a lot of the existing data is duplicated or copyright protection code so MS have found a way to get more efficient with their virtual images.

People have talked about many 6.5GB images being reduced to under 4GB then MS are known to be working on a 320-500GB HD which is expected sometime this year as well.

Not having to juggle discs is one obvious benefit of this new service although pricing is as expected high when you can pickup most of these titles used for under a tenner now!

It won't ever become as good as steam. Not even close. Only older games are coming out for 360 on demand.

To start with, I'm sure they actually said they'll start to add newer games. When or if this happens is anyones guess though.

If they offered pre-orders that might actually be a decent feature, it'll unlock on the day and so you won't be reliant on the postal service.

A 320-500GB HDD? Be prepared to pay £100+ for that. No thanks! :D

They have been charging nearly a quid a gig on hard drives, the 120 was over £100 for a long while, I got one when they became available on the odd £59 offer.

At those rates expect £300 for a 320-500 gig HDD ;) :D

This would upset all the retailers that Microsoft do business with, overnight. They would buy less new games and move even more into 2nd hand markets.

This gen, downloadable games are just going to be for mugs tbh. It will never be a new title (for fear of upsetting retailers). Even the old games, I seriously doubt any of the games will be cheaper than average high street shop, again, fear of upsetting retailers.

I think if this model does work they need to do it from scratch next gen, when they can "reset" the RRPs and prices they sell to retailers for and establish a downloadable model from day 1. Doing it halfway through a cycle where RRPs etc have already been set and profit margins established will nor work imo.

Bang on, rp2000. Upsetting retailers and stealing their business would be suicide for Microsoft. Steam get away with it, but games retailers dont have to sell PC's where as Microsoft relies on the shops to sell consoles/hardware.

Don't think the new HD (rumoured to be 320 or 500GB) will be super expensive as they are discounting the 120GB heavily right now if you look around (and can find it in stock anywhere  for a decent price).

I managed to get a brand new one for only £72 delivered  and it included the transfer kit & special royal mail delivery. It can be found for £87 right now on the high st as well (if you can find one instock).

Reason its so high is mainly because of the interface & casing. MS probably could not do it much cheaper without losing money as the actual HD is probably cheap to source but the rest of it bumps the price up apparently. People moan about the cost but MS obviously have to pay someone to assemble the thing as well!

Retailers are the main reason why DD will be slow to offer newer titles as others have said they would stop selling the hardware so MS cannot offer newer titles as the retailers are making massive profits on used games.

Well, it's almost a month since they appeared. Has anyone splashed out on one of these "Games on Demand" titles yet?

someone has probably already mentioned how expensive these games are compared to their retail counterparts, the only incentive I would have to purchase one of these games it for something like nfs most wanted that im finding hard to comeby at a low price retail.
