23 mile skydive!

Remember watching Felix do the Buzz Light year thing a few years ago and thought it was the most amazing thing I had ever seen, that was until yesterday. What a guy

the drop is awesome, didnt see it live but watched the footage after - hes got some balls.
great stuff and nice to see someone achieve something on this scale using modern tech and going further out of our comfort zones/whats possible when you put your mind and years of work into it.

Bravo!

ps.does anyone know why there wasn't a sonic boom/shockwave?? he passed the sound barrier right?

Given the height he passed the sound barrier at, & the thinness of the air up there, i'm not sure you'd even know he'd passed the sound barrier without actually crunching the numbers.

I think I've read that in the post-jump press conference that he was so busy trying to stop his spin and get on his front that he didn't notice the sonic boom, which I think would have been very small anyway.

Gonna have to look at the footage when I get home.

Didn't they have a rough estimate yesterday of around 700mph? BBC are giving the new value as 833.9mph (Mach 1.24).

Did anything much happen during the ascent? I only tuned in around 1h 50m through so was it just a lot of him sitting there waiting?
833.9 mph is a crazy fast speed. Its no wonder his freefall time was less than Kittingers despite being almost 8km higher. Didn't he barely get to half that velocity when he jumped?

Video up again, watch it before it gets taken down!

Is there anywhere I can watch the full video with the capsule going up and the rest of the prep?

The whole broadcast was over 8 hours long, nothing really happened. The last hour as he was ascending was pretty interesting because of what the commentator was talking about. A few pages back someone did post a 28 min video so might be worth watching that although it was just someone filming their TV.
