23 mile skydive!

Fine he got the record for highest jump, but what i'm saying is that there is no skill involved in doing it. You jump and pull a parachute, anybody could do that ...

He pulled himself out of an upside down flat spin. Maverick couldn't even get out of a normal flat spin and Goose paid the price for that. You're either ignorant and genuinely think this sort of a dive is easy or you're trolling. Either way I'm ignoring any further stupid comments from you.

As has been said already - plenty of skill involved. He managed to pull himself successfully out of what would have been a fatal spin. I was genuinely concerned for his life once I saw the rate he was spinning, and cheered at the telly when I saw he'd pulled himself out.

Either you're ignorant to the facts - in which case, go and read up on this, and similar jumps and/or early space missions, and be impressed, or you're trolling - in which case everybody will start to ignore your posts.

A supersonic jump with no drogue 'chute in a full pressure suit from 128,000 feet up in the stratosphere is not the same as a 10,000 foot jump from a light aeroplane over the English countryside.

Such brave men. Such fragile egos.

RIP Goose, forever in my heart.

Thanks for reminding me of this. Please excuse me whilst I take a moment to compose myself.

If only you could shake people and repeatedly slap them over the internet.

It would be a much more rewarding and productive experience.

So, although Baumgartner hit 833mph during his descent, he didn't really break the sound barrier did he? I mean he would have going that speed at lower altitudes, but because of lower air density at altitude, he never truly went supersonic. Am I right?

Either way, it's still a massive achievement and the way he just snaps out of the spin almost instantaneously was impressive.

The speed of sound at the altitude he hit 833MPH is, what just under 700MPH? So he did go faster than sound waves travel in the density of the air he was falling through.

So be all definitions he broke the sound barrier by going faster than sound waves travel at that altitude.

Something like that :)
