Right, taking re-delivery of my rma'd titan goliath system soon hopefully. I'm looking at upgrading my current crt to a widescreen monitor.

I see all these threads about the different panels, and quite a few people have different views on what is better.

I mainly play fps/racing games - so i'd be after something with very little lag. My budget would be a maximum of £340ish.

I've currently got my eye on the t260 as i imagine the higher res qon't be an issue for my system with the gtx 295, and it has good reviews from people who have bought them - but i'm unsure if this will or won't be suited for my gaming preferences? What are the best suggestions for a gaming monitor?

Sorry to be a bit of a noob, but this will be the first time i'll have a monitor that isn't a crt :)

What size/quality crt are you using at the moment? If you can stretch a little this is a good gaming monitor. Most cheaper 24" panels will be tn (poor viewing angles) and have higher input lag. If your budget can't stretch then this seems like a very nice screen, albeit smaller, good viewing angles but not sure about input lag.

If you can afford the NEC I've not heard one thing bad about them...I'm buying one on Wednesday myself, and can't wait! From the sound of things, if you're gaming, they're the bee's knees. If you're doing graphical work you may want to look at an IPS screen though, such as the equivalent Dell.

EDIT: Just seen that you're gaming, go for the NEC if possible; I'll post back on Saturday letting you know how it's gone with mine!

why go for the dell if your not gaming does the NEC have a worse picture quality than the dell ?

That is out of question if you're doing graphics stuff and do a lot of gaming too, there is no other option other than the NEC unless you're prepared to have 1 for gaming and 1 for the work you do :P (The Dell's input lag is unacceptable for proper gaming.)

Colour reproduction on the Dell may be minimally better, but that's hindered by its input lag, so if you game the NEC is the one!

really?

Just read Custom Pc (latest issue)- review on about 24" monitors.

The Hp came out top BUT

By far the best review to me was the NEC, but it was overpriced they said. For gaming excellent though.

Well they had it at £570, overclockers uk have it at £409 and this monitor is my definate choice.

I would add money to my budget of 340 ish and get this.

nec looks really nice, lot's of connectivity aswell which is a real bonus :) Maybe the prices will come down a touch in a few weeks when i sell all my old crap :D

Yea the NEC looks really nice! now i'm spoilt for choice! T260 Samsung or THIS!

Oh and i just check on google at the prices, £600+!!! OmG! OcUK have it for real cheap! lets see if it goes down even more ;)

Definitely the NEC. The only thing a larger screen size will help with is if you sit further away, but the resolutions are the same. The NEC uses a VA panel (also, correction above, the Dell uses a VA panel too, not IPS), and the T260 uses a TN panel. VA panels are better in every way except maybe response times, but the NEC has a "through mode" that lowers input lag (which is the main problem for gaming, not response times).

So definitely, if you can stretch to £400, I would recommend the 24WMGX3. I love mine.

The NEC has a real good next day replacement warranty too, over 3 years.

I have been posting on here solid 4 the last week, looking for a 24" upgrade and the Info i have received from people on here is invaluable on this. To me this is a real bonus and piece of mind - I have had monitors go wrong before - frequently.

The last thing you want is to be stuck with a defective monitor.

T260 IS ABSOLUTE GARBAGE COMPARED TO DELL 2407/08 AND THE NEC....DO NOT BUY ;)

The T260 is no gaming monitor... trust me :( They have some at PC World and I can actually notice the input lag even just in windows.. So if you want a gaming monitor, this monitor definitely isn't the one for you.

Saw one guy saying the monitor ghosts quite badly in css :| That's the main fps i play :(

have to mention vieiwng angles aren't an issue as the monitor will be adjusted when i first get it, and will never move

Had a look at a view reviews and think i'll either get the NEC 24WMGX3 or HP LP2475W - i'm leaning towards the hp, also heard the customer support is excellent

I'd still recommend you the 24WMGX3 since you're going to play games with it. I have the Dell 2407WFP, which has a similar input lag to HP LP2475W, and I don't like it much for gaming, I only play guitar hero and some startegy games on it. Thats why I still have my Samsung 2032BW, so I just switch to it when I'm playing CSS and other FPS games.

NEC +1 youll be a speechless for a long while.. ok it costs bit (cheaper here) but youre not looking to upgrade your monitor for a long time. Its a nice piece of kit, was abit jealous of me friends new one :D
