I think you've been F5'ing a little too much too Rich...

Elite Tier hardware!! How come I don't have one!! Can I bin??

I lol'd. :D

Weren't these £160ish direct from Madcatz with a free headset? I don't want to accuse OCUK of stockpiling and thus controlling prices but it appears much more expensive even with the free mousemat. Other retailers havesold them for £130, I guess when a product becomes popular everyone decides that it's "normal " to jack up the price by stockpiling.

I am in the market for one of these but I'm not tempted for that price. Not interested in the mat so that doesn't sway me.

£180 is a bit dear. I know you get what you pay for but everything seems to just go up and up, moving out of the reach of normal gamers.

I know overclockers is for the "enthusiast" but not all enthusiasts are rich.

saitek said that allocation would be given to partners who worked in cooperation with them on retail pricing to uphold the RRP.

It's a cartel then :p

Has the build quality improved yet?
Last time I looked at these several forum members were having problems, with some even ripping them apart to try and fix whatever broke...

Ordered one of these before they went on TWO oh well lesson learnt.
Its also going straight back seems the reports of the build quality of these are , at least in my case, true. Stick appears ok but throttle, when joined, is so stiff even at loosest setting so as to be next to useless. When delinked the left left side is evidentially the problem being much much stiffer than the right hand side at the same setting. It might just be usable if I could bolt it down but like most people I use my main computer for a number of things and cant make special allowances for one peripheral. From the reviews I knew that without being secured they would be some movement of the two components in use but the throttle is just unusable in its current state. On the other hand my Microsoft Sidewinder force feedback joystick is still as strong and reliable as the day I bought it many, many years ago. Very disappointed for the money. Its a shame that there is not a competent HOTAS setup for reasonable money**. I would have even paid Warthog money to get a decent setup but the lack of twist on the stick rules it out for me as mostly interested in playing ED at the moment and really like having the twist axis for roll.

How handy with a welder are you?
You could quite easily build a custom-fit desk clamp that would go on/off very quickly and hold the peripherals in place, without wrecking your desk surface...

I wouldn't.
That thing is worth no more than £200 and while the stick is lovely, the throttle is nasty. I also hate that it's great if you play A10 FlightSim, but pretty naff for anything else.

I'm going with a CH Hotas, as you can get the full thing for about £200, if you know where to look. My ideal is still probably the G940, but they're rare as rocking-horse poo and always go for insane moneys.

The twist is nice, as with my FLY-5, but it's a weak point on so many sticks that even the 'high-end' retail stuff just breaks.

The issue is that the choices of stick are pretty limited.

Have you tried "working it in"? It seems that they use a lubricating grease that needs a bit of use to get it playable. Its a pretty constant comment that seems to go away after a small amount of use.

Have given it a good 'workout' the stiff side is still the same. Looked at another online vid that suggested opening it up and removing some of the gunk they use to cause the friction/ resistance to make throttle easier to use. I would not have minded if the throttle was a bit stiff overall. But as you can see the difference between the two halves of the throttle is massive. I can push the right hand side with just a finger or two. The left hand side needs a good full handed yank to make it move.
