2500K dilemma

1440p 60hz I wouldn't bother 1440p 144hz then yes I'd consider upgrading. I remember back when my i5-750 lasted me 4 and a bit years at 4.3ghz man that was one of the highest I've seen a i5-750 run at and boy was it fast, faster than a stock 2500k and not far off a stock 3570k back in the day paired with my 780 Ti it was a monster :p I'm like that with my 4790k now I seriously can't see me upgrading till at least 2019

Love my 2500k still, awesome cpu :) Still plenty fast enough for anything out there if overclocked.

No point in upgrading until something significantly better finally turns up.

Only parts I have upgraded lately are another 8gb of ram and a bigger ssd.

Save your money for GPU upgrades.

I managed to drop an Ebay bargain and upgraded from my 2500k/8gb to 2600k/16gb at a cost of £22 when I'd sold the old stuff.

I've been using a 780 Dual Classy Hydro for 1440p for a while and there isn't much I'd improve in the games I play. Tomb raider is the worst but its still very playable and looks beautiful...reckon a 1070 or 980ti will be coming soon to make use of that and cant see an upgrade for ages then.

I am still rocking a 2500k also. I keep telling myself to upgrade also. But it seems there doing the business still.

I will defo need a new monitor next and probs better gpu to cope with high rez.

Also 2500k at 4.2GHz and I can't really see any major point in upgrading it either. I've gone 460-670-780-980 and seen a performance increase every time. It's still an amazing CPU and I keep thinking 'next year' and then not seeing any reason to upgrade. Much like IvanDobskey I've added 4GB of ram and an SSD but the board, CPU and half the RAM is still the same as June 2011.

I'd love to upgrade my 2500k, but I just can't justify the cost of upgrading when I won't really be getting much performance gain (gaming only).

I might just buy a second 980ti and upgrade my monitor to one of those 34" ultra wide 1440p (currently on a 24" 1080p).

Just chipping in rocking my 2500K for several years now
Used to have 2 x 580 in SLI @ 1920 x 1200

Now got 1 x 980TI Amp edition @ 3440 x 1440
FPS is pretty good , I watched a video of some guy testing 970 and 980 with 5 different gens of CPU's ... result only 5%-10% in it

My 2500k still feels fast. You can crunch all the numbers but sometimes the best approach is a black box one. Input a known quantity i.e. a game you want to play. Then see if you get the expected output i.e. it plays smoothly at a frame rate you find acceptable.

If you find problems upgrade, if you're happy you just saved several hundred pounds ;)

I think the way mine is performing I'll hold on for second generation Zen assuming it is competitive. I expect that will last until about 2025!

From what I've read. Having a faster RAM i.e DDR3 P17000(2133MHz) will increase some FPS with the i2500K.
I might considering getting a faster DDR3 @2133MHz..

I can assure you that is only ever going to happen in some very very specific games, in fact bf4 is the only game i ever saw a fps difference and that was only about 3fps.

Faster ram really makes no difference to games.

I don't think it is worth it to spend another £40 for 8GB DDR3 RAM for a few fps...

That's why i got a GTX 1070 for the extra fps.. and future proof for another 3+ years...
gaming at 1080p or 1440p...
