27" G-Sync 1440p Monitor Recommendations

Let us know what its like I've been looking for a new 27" G-Sync 1440p monitor too for ages now but all of them seem to have massive backlight bleed.

tried a dell S2716DG but the color banding was too much for me.

You know that backlight bleed and IPS glow are totally different things right? One is related to build quality, and one is related to how AHVA (IPS-like panels used in these monitors) work.

Regarding the dead pixel, by all means send it back, but don't let it put you off the Viewsonic. Dead pixels can happen.

I understand that, but it was a very off putting one. Even so, I don't think it's acceptable for a premium monitor that costs a lot of money to be shipped with any defects whatsoever.

I think the majority of the public would agree with you, however manufacturers seem to disagree!

I've been looking at the Viewsonic for some time with an eye to upgrade to it. Seems to come better regarded than the equivalent Dell / ASUS / AOC variants that all share the panel...

Surely if the will receive large amount of returns they will change their tactics, I would't accept not perfect screen when price tag is up to £700 for it.

Rather than starting a new thread I followed this one and took a gamble on the Viewsonic. Should be here Friday so will report back.....joined the lottery :(

Please do was thinking about this monitor but then you see pictures from owners threads and you see how bad the BLB looks I think better of it, don't want to spend £700 and get bad BLB but I want to upgrade from this 1080 60hz monitor I'm on now.

This old LG monitor has almost zero BLB just a tiny bit of clouding near the top that hugs the edge, why is it older monitors had less BLB ?

CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lamp)

Now peeps think they have an LED monitor! :p

There is a proper LED screen on the cards I got in my Google Now Cards but not sure if I can find it again, said to be better overall than OLED.

Each pixel will be a RGB LED.

How many times do I have to repeat myself. You're not seeing BLB. You're seeing IPS glow, taken on mobile phone cameras which make it look worse than it is! Find a video of it, it won't look anywhere near as bad. Some info to back myself up here: https://pcmonitors.info/reviews/viewsonic-xg2703-gs/

BLB and IPS glow are two totally different things. BLB is related to build quality, where the backlight bleeds out of a badly made housing. You might see some backlight bleed, but it's more likely all the images are taken with mobile phones, and they capture BLB and IPS glow. It makes both look worse than they really are.

Sure, panel quality isn't great. That's the fault of AU Optronics more than Viewsonic. Yes I agree, they should QA better.

At the end of the day, buy it from the jungle. Then you can return it. Like I said, I have three. Very happy with all of them.

IPS glow cannot be fixed. It’s just how LCD displays with LED backlighting is. It’s not a defect, its a property of the technology.

There’s a good video on YouTube that explains it, I’ll see if I can find it

Edit: it’s because of the way molecules are oriented in the crystals of a display, and don’t fully block out the backlight when displaying a black image. If you change how they’re oriented, it’s no longer an IPS or AHVA panel

Hence a reason OLED is so popular and has an infinite contrast ratio.

I know what IPS glow is and yeah it makes it harder to tell how it looks in irl but BLB is such a big problem these days and at unacceptable levels in my view.

Couple of years ago I sent back like ten TV's mostly for bad screen uniformity due to the filters they put on them but they all had super bad BLB too.

Now I just always assume worst. Example of one of the TV's, top corners is glow that would change on viewing angle bottom corners is BLB.

It seems I was wrong about my lottery win!

On a black screen today I noticed a large ish white pixel. Then looking further there are loads of smaller white ones in a cluster. It looks like a starry night.

There is also some backlight bleeding around the edges that I was willing to let go until this.

Time to return I think.

Sucks man I know that feeling at least returning monitors now is easy and they don't try and force you to keep it.

UPDATE:

So far, I've tried 2 x AOC AGON AG271QG and 2 x ViewSonic XG2703-GS.

Haven't found a single one without dead pixels yet. The backlight bleed was much worse on the AOC's. Interestingly, the dead pixels on the ViewSonic were in the same place!

The lottery continues.

Dell have much better panel QC, so worth looking into them next. It's a tradeoff I guess: multiple returns vs not as good viewing angles, and the need to calibrate.

They also have premium panel guarantees. Some manufacturers have a warranty tolerance of a dead pixel or two, so be careful.
