27" iMac or 15" MBP?

The one tip I will give you that seems to catch out a lot of windows converts, clicking the red x in the corner of an application window does NOT close the program down fully. Apple key + Q is the easy solution and fully shuts the current program down.

Ok, so after missing UPS yesterday my iMac arrived today!

My god, its huge! Really makes you go "wow". Anyway, after the initial frustration of trying to kick my windows habits i'm starting to get more efficient with the different OS and liking the thing more and more.

I still have a lot to learn, but i'm constantly finding little things that impress me with OSX, it's extremely well polished.

What niggled me the most initially was the window management and not being able to truly maximise all windows. I still find it strange that the "maximise" (zoom) button behaves differently depending on the app. However that is slowly becoming a non-issue as I'm coming to grips more with spaces (really cool feature).

After using the iMac for a couple of hours I went back to my PC and the 22" 1680x1050 LCD I have looked awful! Really makes you appreciate the quality of the display.

Glad it arrived! There are a lot of tutorials on the apple website that cover the basics. Oh and if you can't get used to it I will be more than happy to take it off of your hands! :D

If you don't need to take it with you, get the iMac all day long.

The ONLY reason to get a laptop is needing portability, I have no idea why so many people buy laptops and then plonk them on a desk for their entire life.

You PAY for portability. Don't pay for it if you don't need it.

Edit: read thread, this post now clearly redundant. Apologies.

Yes, agree with prior posts that many buy laptops and then never move them. The absolute best value for money now is the 27" iMac, which rivals the Mac Pro in performance and is heaps cheaper. Some middle ground for some people is to get an MBP and then slave off a large display which can sit at home and convert the laptop into a quasi desktop machine. Likely, a cheap LCD screen wouldn't have the same resolution and characteristics as an iMac display, but unless you do photography pixel-layer work, you may not see much of a difference. Looking at the i7 unit now, with 16Gb and a 2Tb drive; I don't think there is better value for money anywhere.
