27" too big for gaming?

I game on a 27.5" 1920X1200 monitor and wouldn't go back to smaller screen.

i took the plunge the other day on the asus 27 inch the 299 one on here, i came from a 22 inch lg flatron and the results are epic, the screen size your asking about is a no brainer, gaming at 27inch is epic nothings cramped and its so much nicer to see, the thing you should actually be worried about is finding a monitor that has such good colours and no backlight bleed etc, the qulaity of screen should be the main thing when considering something your probably going to be looking it for the next few years, im certainly not disspaointed with this - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-029-AS&groupid=17&catid=1120&subcat=

if you sit at a desk with just the keyboard between you and the screen then 27" might be too big

I think that 24" would be fine

if in doubt, draw it out on a MASSIVE bit of card and take a look!

I gamed on a 27" for a while, but these days i prefer 2x 23" screens, use one for gaming, and the other for browsing at the same time

I thought long and hard about that monitor before finally taking the plunge and buying it. I have to agree with OCPete, it's great for FPS gaming. Yes it's expensive and you will either love or hate the looks but I'm so pleased I bought mine

Not often I say this, but that design is truly discussing. It would only look nice if it was in a dual screen setup and there was a mirrored version.

I've been pretty undecided about this too. but i think i'll sell my 26" tv and my 19" moniter and get a 27" when the time comes.

a 27" screen isn't to big for gaming.

for my main/gaming screen i use a 46" screen, much better for my eyes..

I'm sitting infront of 42" HDTV as my main monitor with Eyefinity, side monitors are 24" for a total resolution of 5760x1080x1200

Don't have any problems with gaming, bigger is indeed better when it comes to this.

I'll be upgrading from 24" to 30" soon, seen some 30" setup and looks amazing on gaming.

I upgraded from a 22" monitor to 26". Seemed massive at the time, but I love it

Great size to game on, especially at 1920 x 1200 res.

1. it's a strain on the gpu, go for 24" (resolution 1920x1080)
2. yes this varies, and it's annoying that it's not written on the tech specs anymore.

What GPU have you got?

I had a Dell U2711 and gaming at 2550x1440 on a 5770 was fine. (Portal 2, DOD source, Need for speed hot pursuit)

(I say had because there was a problem with it and im getting a replacement next week - just deciding if I sell it and get a cheaper 27" / good quality 24" and new graphics card or keep it)

2 reasons I wouldnt like the res any higher...... 1 text size will be too small and 2, I would need to upgrade my system more often to keep games running smooth.

Text size would look the same but you would have the same desktop space too. Only if you increase res, do you get more desktop space. With my DellU2711, 2560x1440 allowed 4 720p movies to run at once.
The desktop space is fantastic for photoshop work

Text size is very small, but you can increase this with Windows DPI
As you have a 6950 graphics card, it would be fine at that res with all games. (just not Crysis in 2560x1440, 16xAA etc)

I went from my 19" (1280x1024) to a 20" (1680x1050) and within 6 months I had to go back to my 19" as the small text size was damaging my eyes. I did try increasing the text size in windows but this makes websites and somethings look odd. It was like heaven going back to my 19" too.

So I wasn't going to make the same mistake twice and get a 30" with a stupidly high res, na I got a 27.5 inch with a sensible res. I prob would have gone bigger then 27.5 if the res stayed at 1920x1200

I'm totally out of the loop when it comes to gaming on large LCDs.

What happens when the GPU can no longer drive games at high settings (assuming you don't immediately buy a new GPU)? Do you drop the detail or drop the resolution? I can't stand OS desktops in non-native resolutions, but do games generally look OK?

I've just bought a GTX 570 but no display yet. Cheers...
