28 Years Later Trilogy

Just rewatched 28 Days Later on Amazon, still a great watch and the grainy footages doesn’t detract from the film, next up 28 Weeks Later D+.

Yeah - in the very distant future probably content aware AI upscaling can rescue it but that is awhile off yet in producing something which isn't a chalky looking picture.

Kristian is normally fair and spot on. His out of theatre non spoiler sounds promising.

Reviews seem promising, seen a few giving it maximum scores and saying its the best zombie film ever made, its going to have to be REAL good to top Train to Busan imo

I was edging towards 4 or 5/10 but the last scene probably made it a 2/10 for me. Not much of it really landed with me for some reason. That said, it’s not materially worse than 28 Days Later, so if you loved that then you’ll probably enjoy it.

I thought the script and acting were pretty poor. Ralph Fiennes was decent though.

The world in general I like and being set in the North East was fun, as I’m from there. The geography of the places they showed didn’t make sense, but I’m not knocking it for that.

Not sure I’ve watched 28 Weeks Later, so might watch that tonight or at the weekend.

I thought it was a shame that the main driver for this film was “kid makes a stupid decision” (to try to save his mother). It seems lazy to me, there was another film like that recently, but I forget what that one was.

As mentioned above in the initial scenes they see the fire from where the Doctor lives within what seems like a day’s travel. But then in the second half of the film it seems to take several days to get there?

As I said above, not knocking it for having the Sycamore Gap, Angel of the North, etc. on a not very plausible route to find the Doctor. I get they just wanted to show well known places. Will be good for the region I suppose in tourism. It’s just about feasible to walk between those places over several days, but it didn’t seem to take that long at the start of the film.

I was sort of expecting the islanders to have some weird secret but that didn’t happen.

It felt like the start was setting up to make some sort of comparison to war, but then that never really carried anywhere.

Not sure I’ll rush to watch this again.

Edit - it seems the kids in 28 Weeks Later were stupid jackasses too. Maybe it’s a series hallmark. :D

Not entirely sure what to make of it to be honest, the first part was great and quite intense and although there was quite a tonal shift in the second part, it was still decent although obvious where it was headed. The ending however just went weird. I will say that the acting, cinematography and music were top class and some of the shots were stunning. I enjoyed a few of the little easter eggs that I spotted too. At least we don't have to wait too long for the next part to see where that ending was going.

Watched last night, not seen it in years but still holds up great! Seems I’ll have to part with money for 28 Weeks Later
yes I saw again - had forgotten the blood dropping in eye scene, also the squaddies intent on raping the women leaves a bad taste.

sound-tracks often in my playlists ...
