Ok here is a comparison from the AA set in game and then the AA set in CCC, there is definetly something fishy, just look how bad the IQ is with the AA set in CCC and look how blurred it is, when its set in game the IQ is fine there is a massive difference also. I had to save in JPEG so there is some loss of quality but you can still see what I mean.

So the IQ is fine if you like being limited to a set number of antialiasing modes depending on your game title...

God I didn't know it was that bad either (looking at the second picture.)

what i keep remembering the 7800GTX i came from was 420 pounds when i got it.

the 2900 XT is double the power. doubled my 3dmark06 score and is only 250 now :cool:

Yup can also confirm that this varies game by game TRL just happened to be one of the games that showed up just how utterly crap the new CCC AA modes are. Let's hope they improve otherwise ill be selling up.

Can also confirm Next gen was on for both pictures. the new AA modes in CCC simply blur the image totally to fool your eyes into thinking there is some AA there when in actual fact theres none just a blurry mess, like i said it varies game by game some games you cant tell the difference, TRL just happened to catch my eye and I had to post it.

Like I said to Tom on MSN it looks like the card is disabling next-gen mode in the second pic, since it looks like there's no shadows, bump mapping or HDR anymore. Of course, he's getting testy at me saying it on MSN so I thought I'd mention it here.

He insists it was on in options, so I can only imagine it's staying on in the options but being forced off.

Anyone else thinks it looks nothing like next-gen mode in the second shot or is it just me?

I'm mainly going off Lara's shape and face textures, and most importantly the statue in the background.

Nope, doesn't look like next gen is on at all in the second pic. I will give this a test tomorrow when I install my card.

It looks like the ATi engineers were trying to find different workarounds for the AA, that wouldn't hit so hard on performance. Hence the number of different kinds of AA available.

Nope next gen is not being forced off, I wish it was that simple :rolleyes:

Ok here is a pic with the AA set from CCC (8x AA Box) showing that Next Gen is ON from the Main Menu which is all rendered in real time. Notice how utterly blurred it is.

here is a pic with the AA set from in game showing that next gen is ON from the main menu which is rendered in real time.

Here is a pic with Next Gen OFF with AA from in game, as you can see it is not being forced off by the CCC AA in the earlier pictures.

Like I already said to you on MSN, it does look next-gen on the menu to me.

Thus it must be a problem that doesn't affect the menu, since the screenshots you posted earlier clearly showed a complete lack of next-gen detail in the screenshot with forced antialiasing.

But, you're probably going to just keep snapping at me until I pretend I can see next-gen detail in the in-game shot (which I can't, sorry, and I'm not the only one either.)

I apologise for saying something negative about your beloved bloody ATI card.

From these pics you can clearly see that the AA set from CCC is not forcing it off as the Bump mapping etc is still in the CCC AA pic, also notice how the ground is basically flat when next gen is off.

Hi Tom,

I can understand your a bit miffed having shelled out good money on this new GPU but I wonder have you tried a few different games and stuff? (not sure what that Lara Croft game is but do other people have the same issue? any sign of a patch for the game?).

Is this an issue in all your games or just the one in the screenshot.
