2900xt owners\benchmarks thread

I can't get CCC to work at all  whenever I try to load it up it says,

"Could not load file or assembly 'CLI.Implementation, Version=2.0.2686.37213, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=90ba9c70f846762e' or one of its dependancies. The system cannot file the file specified."

Can any one help me, please? I'd like to do some testing myself, i just built it on friday. Full specs are; Win XP Home SP2, Asus P5B, 2gb Geil Ultra Low latency, E6600, Hiper 580w modular psu and 2900xt, obv. :)

Thanks

Simple question... Is the ATi 2900XT more powerful then the Geforce 8800GTX and will it ever be more powerful in future drivers for example?

No it isn't and no one can tell but probably not.

Well, it's all installed, but I could only get a 120.1 in there. Latest issue I've had though is that since installing the second card the Control Panel has stopped working so I can't enable Crossfire  .

Install Net Framework 2.0, then reinstall ATi drivers.. :)

Is that with the Maze attached?

Nice.. You've sold it to me! :)

Just need to stick my 1900 on the old bay tonight and order a 2900 in a weeks time when I'm back in work.. I'd pretty much convinced myself to get one, but was held back by the Maze not fitting.

Edit: Just out of interest, how many RAM sinks are needed?

They already were, and I installed 3.0 as well, just to be sure. then reinstalled drivers, still no luck :(

I finally managed to get mine working after completely removing Dotnet and the ATI drivers software and then reinstalling both again.

Ohh, gotcha, I'll try that then. *sigh* the things we do to get things fully up and working... :)

thanks Jokester.

did you install the ones off cd or the ones direct off ati website?

I really want to get a 2900 XT as I'm getting a P35 which supports Crossfire. It would be nice to add a second XT when and if I need it. 8800 GTX or 2900 XT then?

Basically it comes down to money spookus, are you willing to spend the extra on the 8800GTX, if so, right now, at this moment in time, it is the better performing card. I've just bought one myself (waiting for it to arrive).

Down the road it might be abit (a lot??) closer between the 8800GTX and the 2900XT.

Best thing to do is wait this one out, give it another 3 or 4 months, and see what the refresh's offer. By then, hopefully AMD/ATi will have sorted the driver out for the 2900XT and it'll be better, and probably cheaper too.

I would have sat this one out if it wasn't for my X1900XT crossfire setup giving me headache inducing scan line interference

If your really struggling with your graphics card and really want to upgrade, I'd recommend the 8800GTX, because as it stands it has better IQ, uses slightly less power, is quieter from the reports, has better drivers at this moment in time (but even those are crap), and it has more memory (Not sure how big a deal this is with the 2900XT, read some forums and it seems to be able to virtualize memory or something, am I wrong on this??).

So, right now = 8800GTX

a few months down the line (never mind a year) = who knows.

Performance wise it's decent, if not mindshattering - I only game at 1440x900!!!

Thats not the problem, the problem is I seem to get some rather strange horizontal interference of faded black bands rolling up and down my screen.

According to ATI this is caused by the HDD being accessed and only happens on VGA/Sub-D monitor connections.

Apart from that it's good, I just wish crossfire had more support with games. basically I wish ATI did Crossfire like Nvidia do SLi.

The main disappointment I had with it was when I still got below 25fps on the FEAR benchmark (granted, only 1% was below 25fps). That was with all option at max but no soft shadows.

I ran the fear benchmark today, I game at 720p, I had all options max and soft shadows, I got 0% below 40ps.

I also just got CCC up and running. Thanks Jokester :)

Knowledge, whats your spec/setup

Also, what driver do you use??

My setup as follows:
X1900XT in crossfire
Opteron 165 @ 2.5ghz
2gig DDR500 Team Xtreme Cronos
Creative Audigy somethingorother
Asus A8R MVP32 Deluxe mobo

PS: Sorry to go so off topic  .

full spec is

e6600, asus p5b deluxe, 2gb geil ultra low latency (pc6400), 2900xt, I'm running latest from ati website 8.37.4.3, haven't oc'ed the cpu either.

just tested hl2 lost coast, i read somewhere that there was a problem rendering chainlink fence at high angles (?), i'm not going to say I know the full details, but I did not get a problem rendering it at all. I do get fog in vanilla hl2 though :( , its strange you get it in hl2 but not lost coast
