2900xt owners\benchmarks thread

Theres my faith right there in ATi drivers, i said at the start if they could sort it through the drivers, then you can guarantee they will, and they have, Nvidia pales into insignificance when it comes to drivers, and thats coming from a GTS owner, says it all, no faith in Nvidia drivers at all me. :)

As you can see with ATi's new OpenGL driver it seriously is kicking ass against the likes of the Ultra/GTX, this would also apply to Prey and Doom 3 and pretty much all other OpenGL titles  .

OpenGL isnt much to do with it IMO, I think its optimising (in a good way not a cheating way) the drivers for the card on those games, IL2 is run in OGL and the 2900 needs work there :)

Maybe still the case but a new OpenGL driver model was specifically made when the 2900 came out.

BTW does anyone else get a major slowdown when the dragon comes out of the water on 3D06 ? I am thinking maybe its only 1gb cards as I have not seen it mentioned anywere, it does it on both the drivers I have tried (4.5 and 4.6).

Nah, I think that happens to everyone. 1gb or 512 mb cards (well it happens to me and someone else witha 512mb XT posted about it :)).

Aye, was toying with it earlier and if I set it to do more than one run of that test its fine after the first one, maybe be something to do with loading the textures in video memory ?
Can't say as I noticed it on the GTX though.

I have a question about oblivion performance. I'm playing the game @1680x1050 4xAA 16xAF, everyhing maxed in options with Qarl's texture pack 3 installed. When I run in the forest on the Shivering Isles the fps is under 30. If you fight it can even go to 15. Is this normal?

That texture pack will take a big hit on performance. What drivers are you on?

Im suprised the 2900 runs on those, 4.5 and 4.6 are ******* ancient, i remember using those when i had a 9800pro.

:D

Yeah, maybe that's the problem but it would be nice to know what kind of fps others are getting in oblivion with 2900XT and QTP3.

If it helps

Oblivion 2900 Perf

1680x1050
8xAA
16x HQ AF

10 Minute fraps benchmark, and I went for a walk around the path near Skingrad including walking through forrested areas, bear in mind I also have the 200% vegetation mod on, It's as smooth as butter faster than my GTS ever was. Here are the results from a 10 minute bench from Fraps.

Walking round Chorrol (SP?) during the day (Bring sunlight)

Min Max Avg
36 78 52.461

Walking round the forest surrounding Skingrad (Sunset)

Min Max Avg
31 90 46.914

Those are my results and as you can see it never goes under 30 and that was with 8xAA !

That's strange. So you don't have the texture pack?

Were you running the Texture pack? as when I did a comparison with you I has the texture pack installed.
