295 or 4870x2

285 is a bit carp really; nice card, but £100 more than it should be. I think there's a Gainward 280 kicking about for cheap in B-grade if you really want to avoid the X2.

I had the same dilema, eventually went for the BFG 295 but for some reason cant get my ram to post on the default settings of 1.85 v , got to buy some more ram tomorrow just to get the thing to post , so i have had this lovely card since Friday and havent been able to run it :(

Still got issues with it connecting to my viewsonic vx2435wm monitor as it doesn’t have dvi input , it only has hdmi ,d-sub and component.
It doesn’t auto adjust the image to the screen, like the icons are way off the page  and blanks out the panel in nvidia’s control panel , works fine on my 22 inch as it has dvi, cant help feeling gutted tbh as my 24 inch monitor worked fine with the same configuration on my 3870X2 and to prove I have just refitted it and used exactly the same lead as was supplied with the bfg and no problem . I have sent tech notes to BFG and also sent a copy to Jeff but still no answer , don’t know what my options are as I don’t really know where the problem is ! Drivers or card !! or an oversight.

As u are planning to spend the £70 saving on the X2 on a waterblock for it why not just buy the 295 which someone mentioned earlier in the post was soooo quiet (1st page iirc).

I’m getting a new machine in March/April ( waiting to see what happens) Still using my four year old system and still playing BF2 Pr on it. Am I simply wasting money on such card if I’m only going to use them in 19” LCD screens? I plan to buy a second screen and have two side by side all the same.

I really cant see the need for anything bigger as it works well for me. Might be a case of if I used a 24” screen I’d say I could not live without it…..I don’t know. But my 19” Viewsonic is still a great screen and I plan to carry it over to my new System

Because I would then have to watercool the gtx 295 as I want it silent and cooler than stock cooling. Plus from what I've read so far it really isn't that much quicker than the 4870x2;even slower in some games.

Thanks anyway,

i am running a 19" secondary screen and a 24" main screen pop for the 24" you will like it it makes gaming much better.

Hi Andy I’m kind of aiming for this but thanks for the info on your screens. (I’m in Glasgow as well) do you just use the second DMI on your card for the second screen?
