2D gaming is the future.

Not had the chance to game in 3D yet, but I have watched the footy in 3D. Thought it was a bit "meh" to be honest. Added slightly more depth to the crowd, wearing the glasses for 45mins left me with a dull headache. Apparently that goes after a few viewings.

As mentioned above - the problems indicated by the OP are not necessarily issues with 3D gaming, but more with the graphical power of current generation consoles. When playing in 3D on the PC with a decent graphics card (GTX 470 or above) then gaming can be enjoyable and fluid, but obviously such a gaming PC will cost considerably more than a PS3 or Xbox 360.

I'm sure when the next generations consoles come out they too will be able to render 3D games at 1080p and high framerates.

As for whether 3D (when done correctly) will ever become truly mainstream - I don't know. The price and annoyance factors of wearing glasses counts heavily against it, imho only when they resolve this will it be truly mainstream.

Can't see how 3D is ever going to be worth it, certainly as far as 3D movies go it only detracts from the experience for me, so if games are anything like that it won't be something I enjoy.

Just seems like a needless gimmick, the human eye is already able to perceive depth in a 2D image, so as a purely visual showpiece it only serves as a distraction and hurts the overall experience, am yet to see anything that changes that for me anyway.

If it ever evolves to become part of the core game design I may well take another look.

3D just needs faster hardware that's all, current consoles can barely handle HD at anything over 25fps so 3D was always going to be a struggle.
