Ok guys, i have come into some money and i want to ***** it all on a gaming system.

- Budget £2,000 including Monitor (DON'T need an OS)

What shall i go for?

Do i go for a bundled system? Quite like the look of the "Ultima VelociRaptor" http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-087-OE&groupid=43&catid=1270&subcat=

Or do i go for something similar to 95thrifles £1,500 "Guide to helping you choose your components" (if its still up to date)? Note that i dont have much experience in putting PC's together but i am not a total noob.

Is it worth spec'ing in a SSD?

Or shall i wait at all for the latest technololgy that may be comming out that i dont know about?

Please discuss, thanks.

I've recently purchased a "Ultima VelociRaptor" and tweaked it slighlty (as per sig) and it's a true beasty matey!!! It all depends if you are ATI or Nivida fan.. The sales staff will let you "tweak" the package. That includes having SSD instead of 1TB drives etc

Saying that, all the performance bundles are worth a look!

i and im sure others will join me in advising you to avoid velociraptore as the are really not good value for money, you are spending a good bit on your build so definetely go for an SSD it is much faster and only a tad bit more expensive

I think any i7 system with a good SSD for boot drive would be an amazing setup :) I definately wouldn't get a velociraptore for that kind of budget.

1.2K on PC (if you must have a top of the line system), and about £480 on monitor imo. Save the rest.

I'd go for Core i7 (on 1366 board) with Corsair H50 or TRUE etc.
6GB DDR3 RAM
Radeon 5870
Some sort of SSD depending on you storage requirements plus a couple of 1TB disks for storage.
Decent seasonic or corsair PSU, at least 650W, modular.
Silverstone fortress case.

Get a 24" dell IPS monitor to go with.

Any more money into a machine and it's just being wasted I'm afraid. Can do a full spec at a later date or someone on here will help out for sure.

thanks for this. Is it worth getting the additional gfx or would that be a relative waste of money?

Well you can get a 5870 when they come back into stock (hopefully at a more reasonable price than they are now) and then always add another later if you want more performance. One should be totally ample for any of the latest games and more.

The SSD also might not be necessary. Also look at an Asus Xonar D2 sound card.

Theres a quick system to give you an idea, please feel free to poke holes in it though :P

Ah, may I?

Drop the SSD. Too small to install all your games on and windows won't be revolutionised since the rest of the system is so fast.

Motherboard is overkill imo, about £100 wasted there - I'd go for a cheaper gigabyte alternative with pretty much the same features.

Save a few quid and get the i7 920 OEM CPU.

God that case is ugly. Get a nice Lian Li or Silverstone Fortress to replace it.

Save a bit of cash and get the Corsair HX750 PSU, just as good.

Loving the monitor, hopefully the GFX will come down in price (and into stock) before you order.

You could also put another 1TB disk on there for fun/storage.

OCZ RAM is on special atm, and it's pretty cheap, could consider it over the patriot stuff, though it's not quite as good quality.

Okay, revised spec, needs case though - personal preference

I think spending the extra £7 on the 920 is worth the extra 2 years warranty...

Nice. Could still save £7 ish on the CPU, but for the sake of a an air cooler in case the H50 packs in and another 2 years of warranty it might just be worth it.

As you said, case is personal preference, but don't skimp on it as the cheap ones won't be up to the job. I already mentioned the Silverstone Fortress (very nice, search the forums for a thread with lots of build pics) and the Lian Li range are also very good. Even something as small as the PC-7FW would work, and look good.

Can't spend £2k and not have an SSD boot/Main apps drive I'm afraid.

Look at the Crucial M225 64GB.

You can thank me later.

I think if I was spending 2k I would try and build a fully water cooled i7 920 system with xfire 5870's.

If i was waiting a bit, MSI big bang X58 Mobo (if we get one) with Ati 5970 (if we get one) + Gtx 295!!!:p

screen print button seems ot be broken :(
