Probably borderline as a restoration project, but I'd be sorely tempted with this if I had a few grand - It would make a great track day car.

1986 E28 M5, My pride and joy for the last 16 years, lots of history.
267K miles, Spares/Repair/Track day project,

( new chain/tensioners/sprockets top end overhaul at 140K miles, the bore wear was less than 1 thou !).
New clutch at 180K miles

Last used in 2005, no MOT or Tax (SORN).
Car will start but runs roughly, plugs foul easily if engine not fully warned up.

Bodywork has gone rusty, mechanically sound and well maintained.
Only synthethic oil ever used in Engine.

In 2001 wheels reburbished, new rad, front calipers refurbed, bushes, and front seats recovered in new leather ( electric recaros). Kenwood HiFi +10 CD bootchanger

Air flow meter believed to have intermittent fault on the contact/wiper pickup, (the tracks have worn).
Starter motor does not always engage.

Needs to be trailered away.

£2000 or best offer

Nope, its a shed, a complete and total nail, anyone who spends 2k on that needs their head examining.
Only worth scrap value.

Totally disagree with those saying "scrap". Its an iconic car, and deserves to be restored. However I'm not sure that its worth parting with £2k for that one as a base.

I see all the mechanical experts come out of the woodwork.

Funny how its those who judge something as a nail are the ones who need the most help with mechanical problems and actually know FA about motors.

Not a bad car and would be great to restore however it why would you base a track car on that, an E30 + the amount you need to spend to bring that into order would be a better option.

A la:

A concours one goes for about 15-20k.

I suspect the 2k one will be broken for parts - if it's "that" bad. As mentioned, I believe it's already sold.

I find it more amusing that we're all passing judgements on something that we haven't even seen - and in this instance, you can't make any form of assessment about it. It could just be cosmetically tatty.

Plenty of people out there willing to throw money at cars like these, however....
