£2k o.n.o. M5

That car badly needs rescuing. Wouldn't be surprised if it is restored by its new owner. There's a good enthusiast market for old-school BMWs of that ilk.

Doesn't look like it needs a huge amount of cosmetic work, interior is still in great condition.

I see all the mechanical experts come out of the woodwork.

Funny how its those who judge something as a nail are the ones who need the most help with mechanical problems and actually know FA about motors.

Not a bad car and would be great to restore however it why would you base a track car on that, an E30 + the amount you need to spend to bring that into order would be a better option.

Mechanical experts?

No one said they were, it's easy to tell it's a nail it has more rust than the Titanic and has all kinds of engine problems and has done mileage which could rival even the Atlantis it's clearly a POS and would require serious cash to sort out (if it is even possible the state it's in).

Sorry you and Paradigm had to get your handbags out, maybe you're the ones that should grow up instead of lashing out because a few of us criticised a heap.

Grow up.

Grow up.

Anyone who lets their "pride and joy" get into such a state that it needs to be trailered away, when it's clearly a highly desirable car deserves to have it called a shed. It hasn't been looked after at all. End of.

Granted a fully restored one would be an absolute beaut tho.

Classic.

Not many left like this one!

It's hardly in 'such a state' though. Looks like he's spent a fortune on the engine in the past, just a shame that the body is going rusty.

How you can tell that from 3 small pictures and a brief description is utterly beyond me.

A mate of mine used to race an e28 M5, hence me liking to do the same.

I'll ask him to post some pics of his race e28 M5 later.

:)

I want whatever Image enhancing and telepathy software you have then. I see a bit of cosmetic rust, and an engine that has clearly been looked after :/

Rust spots like that will be all over the shell it's a 20+ year old car I'm betting he left out the worst of it from the pictures, I wouldn't worry too much about the shell though in all honesty, it's the engine that seems the worst.

That would be smart :)

Can you see the bores / bearing wear / compression and oil pressure all the way from North East England?

Yes, I forgot, you are an expert, have been fixing and restoring cars for many many years, and never ever have needed help even deciding what car to buy...

Your word therefore, is gospel.

There was a very good article in Evo a few months ago now, where they tested all the M cars together, with the aim of pitching the best 5 (i think) against the new M3 - they seemed to rate these very highly. Am I right in thinking the E28 M5 was hand built?

I'll translate that for everyone else

"I have no idea if I am right or wrong, I am guessing"

You simply cannot realistically evaluate the condition of a car from a brief advert and pics like that. Nobody can.

Can you?

Considering he describes the car as his pride and joy yet the engine is running like a bag of spanners and there is rust over a good portion of the bodywork I'd be slightly worried. That's all I'm trying to say some of you need to put your wigs back on seriously though.
