Hello Friendly Folk,

Managed to secure myself a 2nd interview for a job.

First interview i wore trousers, shirt, tie, jacket.

the atmostphere in the office was relaxed and no one was wearing suits or even ties.

would you ditch the tie/jacket for the 2nd interview (to fit in more) or go all smart like the first one?

I'd continue as you were.

I had 3 interviews for my current job and although we wear shirt and trousers there's no ties or jackets but I wore a suit for each one.

Suit for every interview!

It'll only go down as a positive, but if they see you relax your attire they might think you're not taking it seriously.

plenty of work places these days go for 'business casual' dress codes, I'd still suit up for interview

there are exceptions like some tech companies with very casual dress codes, you'd not need to bother with a suit for google for example, but generally you should wear a suit for interview even if day to day you won't be

I would wear a suit still, it might even look a bit odd if you changed attire for the second interview in the sense of "well look at Billy Bigshot over here, seems to think he's got the job already"

Echoing the above, always wear a suit to an interview regardless of the general attire.

At my work, we wear casual, so jeans and t-shirt. When i applied for an internal role, i wore a suit when interviewed despite already knowing what the dress code was.

thanks for the feedback, suit it is.

been told its between me and someone else who is very similar to me in qualifications etc.

already pooping it and havent even been given the date of 2nd interview.

pooping it due to really not liking my current employment and wanting something new and fresh.

less money, more work, more hours, less holiday but better prospects.

its close to home and hours are flexible and its doing a job which is exactly what i want.

it was through an agency but the feedback was good and i really impressed the employer (apparently)

Depends on the role and if they've outlined a dress code in the job description. That said, I always think of it like this, If you're the only person to turn up to the interview in a suit, then you're the one standing out from the rest.

If you get me :)

What's the general rule of thumb with 2nd interviews. My previous positions have only ever been 1 interview.

All my questions were asked in the first interview. What questions do you ask in 2nd interviews?

Any others that you forgot to ask in the first one, have arisen since the first interview, or you think of during the second.

If none of those apply then you simply say that all of your questions/queries have been answered. If you don't want to say that you just haven't thought of any questions to ask, saying something like 'we covered a couple of questions that I was going to ask' shows that a) you were going to ask relevant questions and b) emphasises that the interview went along the lines of a discussion rather than straight "questions from them, answers from you" format.

Good luck

2nd interview done and dusted, now the waiting game begins.

they were interviewing myself and another candidate of a similar technical ability.

hopefully ive done enough to secure the position.

last week i was told that they were making a decision by the end of the week.

This week its now by the end of this week as they have 2 more interviews taking place. doesnt bode well i dont think. they were only interviewing 2 people and now another 2.

i hate hunting for jobs.

Don't we all!

Let us know how it goes... :)

Don't fret too much, when I was interviewing for my current role 1 interview became 3 and a couple of weeks became a month or so.
Due to internal politics and my now line manager being off sick.
