*** 2nd March - Apple Event - Official Thread ***

I'm looking forward to this as I put off getting an iPad at Christmas. I'm also interested to see what plans they have for MobileMe to improve the service, of which I'm a happy user.

I wonder of they'll incorporate the new thunderbolt connection for speedier syncing, I mean with what may be large capacities, the USB 2 transfers are just horrible. I hate having to sync my 8gb iphone 2G. Can't imagine a 64 or perhaps 128gb device.

That's not the connection though - it's a device or software issue. a 64GB device could sync in about 20 minutes at theoretical USB2 speeds, so a 8GB should be done in less than 5 minutes easily (2m30s in theory...). Apple devices are slower to sync than the connection speed justifies, though the ipad and latest gen iphone are noticeably better...

I'd also question how often you sync it - I only bother when I have a big chunk of new music, new portfolio stuff or there's a software update, once a month at most basically and I just leave it syncing while I go make dinner or something.

I mean sure it'd be nice and a worthwhile addition, but I'm not sure it's the most urgent thing they could add.

please say ios5 has flash support. i doubt it will, but it would solve my android/apple dilemma.

I really doubt it - They still don't like each other :p

I wonder if anything of the new iPhone will be shown... Probably not :p

I do hope the iPad has a Thunderbolt port though - As then hopefully the iPhone will also have one aswell :)

Three hours before the event and the Apple Store is officially down!

Could we see the release of the iPad 2 today?!

I doubt we'll see iOS 5 till the iPhone comes out, after all 4.3 hasn't even come out yet (although devs have got the GM version).

Not expecting any OMG NO WAI!!! surprises, just obvious upgrades that will keep the iPad looking fresh, although if them spending billions and billions on securing hardware means they can sell stuff even cheaper... well, that'd be good. I did want an iPad but unless I secure employment in the city and would have a commute to entertain myself on it'd be pure indulgence and there's several things I actually need to spend my money on first!

Not particularly interested in the iPad 2 - looks like a relatively minor hardware refresh. More interested in any glimpses of iOS 5. I don't need a detailed rundown - just some reassurance that Apple's working on the notifications problem!

Apples business plan will probably be to spend billions and billions on new hardware to be able to buy them cheaper - sell them at the same price - and make a larger profit on each item :(

Uh, devices can have thunderbolt interfaces :) like the new range of hard drives etc. what would be the point of only having thunderbolt on the macbook pros with nothing to connect to them :D

The devices you refer to will be extremely fast external drives. Why would you need to connect an ipad to one of those? It would be like putting firewire in an iphone. It would be insane.

Fast device backup? Faster media and app transfer?

Assuming the German screen-shot is true and seeing as you can tunnel any protocol over Thunderbolt, I imagine they would release an iPad that has a standard dock connector but can be used over Thunderbolt or USB.
