Not sure if anyone else has heard about this, to be honest I didn't until I got the email from PetrolPrices.com, bit looks like the beloved Mr Brown is sticking another couple of pence on petrol shortly.

Email had a link to their blog: http://www.petrolprices.com/blog/duty-rise-set-to-bring-fuel-tax-to-in-weeks-110.html

So, according to that article, Brown has broken the promise of not raising tax on fuel for a year but its not been in the news at all - something I was suprised at, thought the media would have loved that one.

Yet again, if it is all true, the government screw a little bit more out of the vehicle owner cashcow.

It never rains but it pours....

We can afford it. We afforded petrol when it was £1 per litre, we'll afford 91p per litre.

Didn't say we couldn't afford it - but why should we have another increase, especially after our illustrious leader (sorry, I meant Brown) promised no rise for a year - I think that was last October, so this rise is about 7 months early and so they can grab more money.

Would you rather they took an extra 2p to the pound from your pay?

I know i know, its 2p and its crazy! I might have to pay an extra £2 to fill up now :(

It was during PMQs last July. This'll be the second time he's put the duty up since his 'promise' (he added 2p in December 08 to offset the VAT reduction :o). Apparently it's going up 1.84p again at the budget and then the VAT goes back to normal in December. That's a LOT of hikes in 12 months for someone who 'promises' it won't go up at all.

Ooooer, you live near me, sexytime? :o

And 2p again? I hate this country! :(

This is true but we were paying that due to the massive increase in the price of oil not because the govt increased fuel duty. We pay enough in taxes on fuel as it is.
Obviously we aren't paying enough in taxes, otherwise they wouldn't put it up. Clearly in a recession the government needs to more money. 2p increase is perfectly reasonable in my opinion.
