2TB EPICNESS! Seagate ST2000DM001 for £66.66inc - Save 20%!

My last 6-7 drives have been Seagate and been fine. If these are confirmed as 2 year warranty I will add another 2 to my collection..

a quick google

http://www.behardware.com/articles/843-6/components-returns-rates-5.html

where the stats are from I have no idea but seems the larger the drive the higher the return rate for all brands
(slightly worrying on the next page is ssd stats and my ocz 240GB (which I had to replace) has almost 10% return rate which I find amazing if true. It would be nice to have some accurate return rates available).

and here: "Every WD drive that I have bought for my home PC has failed after 2-3 years I now ONLY buy segate."

so I think people have bad experiences with a chosen brand and "never touch them again".

i'd hazard the reason is more platters. for slightly older drives, a 1tb drive = 2 platters, 2tb is 4. it's a given that more moving parts = more chance of failure. this particular drive on deal has only 2 platters, but only if you're lucky - you've got 50/50 chance of getting a 3 platter version if you've bought this drive since about half a year ago. false marketing by seagate :L. apm is also a very big deal on these drives regardless of platter count (lots of noise, possible chance of premature failure)

if this can be guaranteed to be 2 platter tho i'm almost desperate enough for a new drive to get one

How long is this on for? doesnt seem to have "special offer" written on it, so Im assuming its a nice price point?

I have one and wouldn't recommend it due to the "clicking/chirping" sound it makes on a seek.

When you first hear it (some users also describe the problem in their reviews), you will think the drive is dying or scratching against something.

It does work fine and I have had no problems with it, but it's very unnerving every time I hear it.
