I recently purchased a 2TB Western digital Mybook external hard drive and was wondering if its possible to get some sort of split USB cable so I can use the drive between my PC and for use on my western digital media player which also requires USB?

Also just wondering there is a firewire port on the hard drive but the only firewire connection I have on my PC is very small like what you would use for a camcorder is it possible to use that connection?

No, you can't have 2 connections to the drive at the same time.

Yes, you can use that with the correct lead (I use it for my MyBook)

Sorry you misunderstand I don't wont to access the drive from 2 places at the same time but want to be able to access the drive when required from 2 places without keep switching the cables

Also what sort of firewire cable would work?

Ah OK. You can get a Firewire cable from any highstreet store (or OcUK probably), depends what plug you want on the other end (a mini DV is the one I use).
I don't know of any switch-type box you could use with a hard drive, but you'll have to 'safely Remove' the drive when switching anyway to avoid corruption. You could use 1 or more powered USB hubs and power each down as required? Or just unplug at the hub.

Thanks for the advice I will look into firewire cable has for usb sharing might be quicker to just swap the cable between devices has they are both in the same room.
