is it possible ot have 3 displays?

I do doubt its possible but if it is i got an x800xl and would like to hook up 3. DVI VGA and then the weird Svideo comonent thingy.

so is it, even if it isnt with my card what would u need?

3 displays is not possible on a single card (at least not the sort your looking at). Best bet is to get something like an old geforce 2 pci and use that for one of the displays.

My monitor history has gone something like this:
1 crt
2 crt's
1 tft
2 tft's
3 tft's
1 tft & 1 widescreen tft

Now I'm thinking about going back to 1. I'd say 3 is definitley OTT though.

Yes it is - a while a go someone used a triple head adapter to run three monitors from a single source - albeit spitting a single resolution across three monitors rather than three individual 'desktops' so to speak.

edit : here's one - or search for triplehead

well i got a 22" CRT which runs 2000x1500, my LCD tv which i run as a 2ndary monitor but only kicks out 1280x724 and I have just got hold of a nice Eizo 18" TFT. Im going back to uni in a month and i do a lot of coding and will be doing so after my last year. Therefore i am keen to get as much space as possible - 3 screens. That splitter would be fine but im playing with at least 2 (probably 3) different resolutions here so it wont work.

I would have mentioned that device but it seems far from ideal tbh. I only really saw their advantage being for gaming, but even then its so so. I definitley wouldn't recommend it to the op.

It's much more feasble to get an additional gfx carf for £15.

Ya probably right for the extra card - but I was just being predantic and answering the OP's question ;)

how does it work then, just throw it intot he pci and conect the monitor to it?

Just select "Extend my desktop" on properties on the device :)

its better to do it as ATI PCI with an ATI card, and nVidia with nVidia so you dont cross drivers :)

i used a 6800GT and FX5200 both Dual DVI for mine

so just to clarify.

I run 1 crt VGA from my x800xl and svideo component out tihngy to my LCD tv.

All i have to do is put in a cheapy pci card (ati as dan said above) connect my 3rd monitor, goto display settings and it will show up with 3 screens.

if your using the VGA and S-Vid connections does the card not have a second VGA?

If so use that, otherwise get a ATI PCI card :) and yea itll be fine.

Just a little tip if you check out some of the flight sim forums you should get some good help cos there well gend up on that kind of thing.

cheers.

again everyone keeps disagreeing, can my card do 3 outputs.

VGA DVI and the Svideo(component thingy)

ati x800xl

It can not do all 3 at the same time, I have an X800XT connected to 2 TFTs and a TV, I have to disable the 2nd monitor to get a picture on the TV, it's beacause the card only has 2 output heads. You will have to buy a PCI VGA card to get a 3rd output.

For truth.

Tens just go with this guys (and my!) suggestion.
