Not a shooter.. but have you checked out Castle Crashers on Steam?

It's the greatest, most complete co-op side scroller I've played in yonks by far.

nice bit of fun

Terraria (2D Minecraft essentially)

James Town (top down up to 4 player)

For the kids.

For some reason, they seem to manage better with Side scrollers for some reason, they seem to struggle with verticals? They do like Jamestown though.

Shoot Many Robots seems a good shout, seems to have slipped under my radar.

Tried Castle crashers, maybe I am doing it wrong but I find it boring and a grind.
