Hi All, I was going to just upgrade my gfx card but decided that its just not worth it. Considering I have not spent a penny on my PC in over 4 years now (I think) it might just be worth getting a brand new build.

So, here is my current choices. Please let me know how close I am to the mark. Remember, it will be used with my 3 dell 24" ips screens (1900 x 1200 each)

What do you think? any changes?

The current PSU is a 500w corsair I think, well respected at the time so should be ok.

Any ideas or changes? My main worry is the RAM. I will be using the PC for Work, Crysis3, FarCry3 and maybe some flight sims.

Any help will be appreciated. P.s how do you get the nice formatting from the basket?

p.s I don't really have the time to OC it to the extreme so just air cooled and easy overclocking is my target. I am hoping to get 4.4 out of it without spending more than an hour or so?

500W should work but it is a bit low, especially when you want to overclock. I'd say you'd be safer around the 600W mark. If you ever want to go dual GPU you'll need 800W or more. Plus if it is that old it might have lost a bit of its original performance.

Thanks. What RAM do you recommend? Do i really need 2400 ram for a 4.4gig OC? Also, would stock cooler be ok to start with or should I get something a bit better from the offset? I would like the PC not to be too loud when not gaming.

For overclocking Haswell (or overclocking any CPU really), go with something a lot beefier than the stock cooler. Stock cooler should be fine at factory default speeds though.

Fast RAM speed is mostly useful for memory intensive tasks, games won't see a lot of benefit. The memory you picked should be just fine.

faxfan - The plan is to play some games on 3 monitors. However, cant really afford more than the price of a gtx 780 so will stick with that and maybe get another one in 6 months or so. Not too bothered about AA etc so settings don't need to be at 100%

Shiari - Can you recommend a good but not too noisy hsf? This will be used as an office PC during the day so I don't want it sounding like a rocket taking off.

Gigabyte Z87X-OC - Is this the version of this MB that I need? Whats the difference between this and the £50 cheaper one?

you *might* be better off with 2 SLI cards of a lower spec, but it really does vary from game to game. If your not that bothered about super detail graphics then you should be ok.

If you are working all day in the same office (like I do and I also have 3 monitors!) I'd suggest investing in some quiet / silent fans. The sounds really does get to your after a while, I've going to go for some water cooling on mine.

There is a link to the shopping tools in my signature.

If you don't want to OC much, then you don't need the Z87-OC.

Your PSU (CX500?) isn't enough. With a 780, I'd go with a good 550-650W PSU with more amps on the 12V, and a 850W PSU for future SLI.

For the HSF, depends on your budget and case. If you want something around the £30 region, then the Macho HR-02 is one of the best. If you can double your money, then the NH-D14, SilverArrow, Dark Rock Pro 2, Phantek PH-TC14, K2 Mount Doom, ect... will do the job.

Not sure you need 16GB. If you do, you will need low profile RAM.

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI GeForce GTX 780 PCI-Express 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £539.99
1 x Intel Core i7-4770K 3.50GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail with FREE Grid 2 PC Game £269.99
1 x MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming Series Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £161.99
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan RED 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C10 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLD38G2400HC10TDC01) £79.99

Total : £1,125.95 (includes shipping : £10.00).

If you're going SLI, you might consider a GTX 770 4GB, to reduce the costs. Frankly, I'm not keen on triple displays.

Don't really want to go for SLI at the moment. Something to consider at a later date.
Oliver, thanks for the info and advice. May I ask why go for the MSI over the GB OC as they are both the same price? Is the MSI easier for a simple overclock?
