I was just thinking - we had the 0-whatever thread and due to obvious reasons (actually being able to do it) there wasn't much discussion or many posts.

I was out today and realised that doing 30-70 is much more feasible and after looking at a few sites, there's quite a few 'statistics' for these speeds.

So.....anyone up for it? It's a bit more 'open' in the sense that you can do this legally and without fear.

I've got a gentle run I tried today, (on a flat, of course) with an accurate speedo, so I'll upload that in a bit.

Peace, out!

Yea, TomTom is fine, prefer video evidence but if you can't, no worries (GPS is generally accurate to within 0.01mph but you may find it doesn't refresh fast enough sometimes) - FYI this is how I've made sure my speedo actually correlates with road speed :)

And yea - 30mph rolling, then pedalling it :D

Cool Fox - manufacturer's is fine - nice to build up a database here maybe?

bobert - a video recording of either the speedo or TomTom is probably the best bet but to generate a few more entries we'll accept stopwatched times on a gentlemen's agreement of honesty :p

Mr_Sukebe, very good points but I'm not really sure - I was thinking along the lines of just getting there as fast as you can - In my first gentle pass (which I'm uploading) that was just in 3rd gear, rolling from 30-70 - and timing it as such.

If you have to change gear to complete that pass, then that time is justifiably included as that reflects the real-world 30-70.

I'm not sure really - opinions? I feel constraining it too much may just make it more complex than required :D

In my Sprint I'm making mine to be about 4.9 seconds and the speedo's been checked against TomTom.

I'll do some more runs tomorrow though because I know I can eek a bit more out of it if I'm a little more aggressive with it.

:)

I am aware I crept up a little at the start though, so I'm listing it as my 'temporary' time for the meantime :)

Windows were open as well! Think of the aerodynamics! :p

Hell, who cares, at least it gives a rough comparison - you can't expect the world when most people don't have access to decent timing gear and various other logistics :) It all seems relatively approximate, at the moment...

Something to do on a quiet evening and at least it makes for interesting banter! :)

You'll probably find a lot of it's down to the drivetrain characterstics and what it's setup for from the factory......Something like the Civic might be well set up to progress from those speeds but fall on it's face from higher speeds.......Or vica versa.

Thinking about putting the videos in the first post as well and spreading it out a bit - reckon it's a sensible idea?

Stop people having to trawl through the thread looking for the links :)

I'll update this later. Been at Enfield all day at the BCA bidding on random cars.

Almost bought an MG TF, Disco 2.5 TD, Jaguar S-type, Jaguar XK8, Merc 600, MR2 and a few others...No success today though.

Going back on Saturday though, too busy today to really commit to anything.
