Yesterday I went to Watford Waterfield retail park with the other half to buy a load of things for our coming holiday. I accidently parked in a bay that happened to be a parent bay. I genuinely didnt realise before anyone starts ;) I even checked when I got out of the car but my car was over the symbol so I didnt see it.

Anyway, when I got back I found a ticket on my windscreen. After reading it, I saw the reason was for parking in a parent bay, with no visible evidence of children.

So ok, I parked in the wrong area but there was not any visible signs that it was a parent parking bay apart from the icon that was under my car. There was no warning that parking in those bays are a £30 fineable offence and even if it was, how is no visible evidence of children admissable evidence. Hell I sometimes drive with my 5 year old niece in the back of my car so there isnt any evidence anyway.

So yes I was in the wrong but I cant see how they can get away with fining people without fair signing and warning. To me this is just thieving BS.

Tell them that you had your neice asleep lay down in the back of the car while you went in to the shops - unless they've got photographic evidence of your 'empty' car then it's your word against theirs.

Hmmmm, as far as I am aware these bays carry no legal meaning?

Thats what I think, had it been a disabled spot then fair enough. Had it been clearly signed, I wouldnt have ever parked in either end of story.

April fools?

As said, I'm 99% sure there is no legally enforceable parking ticket for parking in a Parent & Child spot.

Was this a private or council car park?

Stop whinging and pay it, i hate people who park in the incorrect spaces you're just a bunch of lazy so and so's, the same goes for people who speed and park on double yellows. You're a bunch of arrogant --- who think rules dont apply to you, whilst everyone else who is inferior has to comply.

Wait till you have to struggle with two young children when you go shopping, get a life and start being reasonable to other people selfish --- -----

What happen if everyone did what they liked, you should have been clamped and fined 150

you've never owned a car you love have you? parent and child spaces are the only spaces you can park in without having charlie and sam slamming their smashed up astra doors into your car as hard as they can trying to make it open the whole way......

Agreed. I had my MR2 a week before some little $&@#*/&^ put a dint in the door - A WEEK!!!! Sorry, I will either park a nice car in these or over two spaces - I couldn't give a monkies as they are not legally enforcable.

Nice, next time I'm trying to find a disabled bay and it's full of people who care more about a peice of metal than other people I'll think of you...nice one

And yes I know we're talking about parent spaces but the same applies, I end up having to park in them as there's no disabled spaces as 50% are full of people trying to protect there poor cars.

What does the "ticket" look like? scan it and post it...

Them spaces are not a right, in any sense, unlike disabled bays.

Personally myself I just see them as a parent/child priority, not a right. If there were no other spaces in the car park I would park in one without any concern.

sorry but that is no excuse.
if this is going to become regular and be done across the UK then i welcome it.
Having to park in a normal bay to get my baby out of the car is a joke, especially when half the cars in the dedicated bays are taking by ignorant drivers.

I agree with you there fella :)

Im no expert but if you can get yourself out of the car Im sure you can get a baby out of the car in a normal space, if not then park more appropriately to give yourself more space on the baby exit side. Cant do that? never mind maybe you shouldnt bring your baby shopping.

Another thing; if the extra distance from a normal car space to the supermarket is a problem then I would say that maybe you shouldnt be bringing them shopping. Parent and Child spaces are a joke, they probably exist just so people with no spacial awareness can park there 4x4 tank without annhilating a row of cars.

Disabled bays are a totally different kettle of fish - sorry but they are. Anyone ignorant enough to park in them without the corret permit should be fined. Parent and child bays are merely descriminating against me for a) not having a child and b) for having a nice car by making the other spaces that inch or so narrower so some little demon-child can fling the door open on his parents' car and dent my doors.

My sister has 4 lads, aged between 12 years and the youngest 14 moths. How does she manage? Hartlepool only has tight, nasty spaces in which may Honda Accord didn't fitt yet she manages to get all the kids in and out fine??? Haven't even seen her use the 'Parent & Child' bays in ASDA yet...hmm...

Why is it that those with children are any more important that I am? My fiance and I spend as much as my sister in ADSA each week as we have much more disposable cash.
