Hey all,

About time i upgraded my monitor i think,Currently i have a LG 60Hz 1920x1080 IPS Panel,I mainly game Battlefield & Cod so FPS is my main use.

Now ive seen a lot of VA panels in this price range although i heard of horrendous Ghosting & motion blur can occur with some VA panels and that would drive me up the wall,especially motion blur :(

So im thinking IPS panel and a minimum of 144Hz?
What is important to me also is a 100x100 vesa mount option on the rear as i will be putting it on the wall. :)

i have a modern system,Ryzen 3600 / 16Gb 3600Mhz Ram / 5700XT Anniversary Edition.

With the 5700XT im thinking Freesync would be a good option?
What would you guys recommend?
 
My recommendation is the Dell S2721DGF, especially as I have just ordered one.

With the use of discount codes you should be able to get it for around £350.

It's a 1440p 165Hz Nano IPS 27" monitor with Vesa 100m mounting.

Ordered that one for myself, got it for £331.50

Seems pretty well specced for what it offers.
 
How do you get it down to £331.50 :)?

I am at £370 with current price and 5% off so far, dont have access to a student.....

*edit, nevermind my sons school email worked, got 15% student voucher, now £331

Outside of the G7 VA are not great for competitive games, VA have the advantage over IPS for image quality however but that isn't your priority with FPS games. The GL83a sometimes goes on offer for like £350 but looks like the Dell uses the same panel.

This is turning into the bargain monitor of the year with the Dell support.
 
The only IPS worth buying is a 240hz+ IPS. You will see blur at 165hz on Fast IPS having owned first gen TN and IPS 240hz and VA strobed i would not buy 165hz its quite a lot below 240hz and even 280hz.

Thats why people buy TN but saying as you were on 60hz IPS which is horrendous i doubt you will notice but imo 144hz and 165hz is poor advice when he could have got 280hz for £268.99 in the VG259QM.

The Dell I have suggested is a 1440p monitor. There are currently no 1440p 240Hz IPS monitors available. The first one is due for release later this year and will need mega hardware to drive 1440p/240Hz.

The monitors you are advising of are only 1080p, a completely different resolution. Unless you're esports gaming there really (imo) is no need to drop down to 1080p if you can run a decent set-up at 1440p.

Again, imo, 1440p/144+ is the sweet spot. The difference between 144Hz to 240Hz is much less pronounced than 60Hz to 144Hz in my experience.

I agree to a degree, if people are opting for a 1080p monitor then 240Hz would be the smart choice, but for 1440p, given that panels are only starting to hit 240Hz at 1440p and it takes ridiculously powerful hardware to run, the Dell at 1440p/165Hz is incredible value for money and an outstanding monitor.

It also uses the same panel as LG's top range meaning you have the benefit of Nano IPS providing better colours.

The other thing to take into account when purchasing a monitor is the after sales care and warranty. Dell pretty much provide the best, whereas ASUS are a joke.

I had a PG279Q before my Dell and when the ASUS went wrong.....well let's just say I've had five replacements, all with faults and the matter is still on going.

Im not a competitive gamer at all,So wouldn't say i need 240hz lol,However definitely was needing to move on from my 60hz panel as it was noticeably holding me back.

Its not about being competetive either, It is simply IPS is garbage and requires nearly double the fps of an CRT or OLED for the same effect. And it just about works at 240hz but i can tell i prefer 280hz on mine and this is the latest fast IPS 1ms so its going to be faster than 144hz nano IPS.


I mean enjoy it but you didnt say anything about 1440p in any posts at all and you sounded like you wanted to be decent at fps. If you were looking to climb Overwatch rankings i would say it was a suspect choice ovetall but maybe it will work for you and make you happy as you said non competetive gaming. But still having seen that slow motion comparison of 60hz 120hz 144hz and 240hz it makes me cringe that so many people think its actually good when its not even capable of displaying a man running from point A to B without seeing huge steps and gaps in the aninations. You can see it on the mouse cursor trail on your desktop actually.
 
Yes definitely the new Dell 1440P 165hz is great for the price and cannot be beaten solely on the value it provides. However I am not sure how well the overdrive is tuned compared to the 27gl850 which was tuned very well compared to other monitors which used the same panel.
