Hey guys, just want peoples opinions on this.

Having a discussion with someone who has held his license since 17 and driven various cars, clocking up around 10k miles over 3 years....and is looking at 21 (in a years time) to buy an R1 engined kit car as his first car.

^^ such as that.

Now i know it's up to him, and kudos to him for saving etc.....but I can't help but think the statistics are against him, with a rwd car that does 0-60 in sub 4 seconds, as his first car.

Other peoples opinions?

Cheers

Tom.

He gets to drive that on the road? Nice except not in rain :D I cant see him losing it unless he plans on doing 120, it cant weigh more then 500kg at most

If he has the money and wants to get it, then let him. As long as he drives responsibly and not like a boy racer. As already pointed out, 4 years worth of driving, it wont be his first car.

EDIT: there is no way he will be able to use a car like that as an everyday car anyway.

it's only really 1 years worth of driving though :) given that "average" mileage is 10k PA, and they were in mainly low powered FWD cars :)

Provided he is sensible he wil be ok. My Fury is about 200 bhp per ton, and is very easy to slide in the wet with a little too much right foot.

If you hit standing water the car goes all over the place which can be quite entertaining on a major road!

The insurance, safety and cost issues aside...

Is he sure he wants to drive to work at 8am on a winter's morning in a roofless and heaterless car?

feel free to come and shout really loudly in my face "HAHAHA I TOLD YOU SO" when i stack it backwards through a hedge :D

he's 20/21 with bugger all experiance, buying a 300bhp/tonne rear wheel drive kit car. odds of him being a sensible driver are stacked against him lol

He'll die whilst enjoying himself.

Nothing wrong with that IMO ;) :D

It'll be like dying while having some hot blonde sat on top of you and being suffocated by her fun bags :p
