Of all the years I have been with my bank, they decided to block the payment I made for FE today. Switched quickly to PayPal and the card vanished before my very eyes from my basket.

Funny thing is, they never blocked the payment I used to pre-order the 5800x yesterday.

So gutted.

Perhaps more about time on forums... I've been a member for years, and enjoy being here, but just don't post enough to hit the Members Market privileges... what is it, 1000 posts now?

I'm almost half way, just another 11 years then!
Ask, at one time it was 500 posts, you might be able to get in at 500 posts as you been here a long time might as well ask.

You're right, I probably should ask. I've always fancied access, as I buy quite a few second hand bits, but when the bar raised from 500 I kinda wrote off ever making it!

Ultimately the fault lies solely with the scalpers themselves and the people that buy from them. If those that did had an ounce of self control and patience the market would dry up and it would stop inside a couple of generations.

Which is fine in theory but how do you say that to a parent who's kid is desperate for PS5 for xmas, "sorry son not going to pay over the odds because of my principals you'll just have to go without until sometime next year"?

It isn't solely the scalpers, they are just taking advantage of the fact that in the two months before x-mas everybody has launched new products and there just isn't enough to meet demand. Just about every teenage kid these days wants a gaming PC for x-mas, and there's a lot more money around for many working families as they haven't had their usual foreign holidays and aren't going out for dinner three times a week. People are looking to splurge on home entertainment this winter... they certainly aren't taking the kids to Disneyland or going skiing this x-mas, and the same with people who don't have kids, they are spending money on things they wouldn't normally spend money on. In the summer, stocks of bicycles ran out and had waiting lists, and dog breeders have never known puppies sell so quickly. So you can blame Covid for some of it, also for some major disruption to shipping.

Parents should have enough sense to say exactly that to their kids.

Is it not possible for these launches to be made available to forum members only? irrelevant of post numbers, i know it wouldn't cure the scalpers but would certainly slow them down.
