3070 or not??

Re-think your game plan imo. Ryzen 5000 series is better than Intel now in every way, and RDNA 2 is better than Ampere at 1440p, and if you combine the two you also get synergistic technology boost through SAM. You'll leave considerable performance on the table if you go 10600k + 3070 instead of 5600x + 6800.
Well I'm not doing the 10600k now as I just purchased a new X570 board, I think I'll hold off on the 3070 now, see what happens.

The 6800 is maybe 10% to 15% better (if we take AMD cherry picked benchmarks) but also costs 16% more at $579.

I'm slightly unsettled though why the 6800 v 2080Ti numbers AMD put up had the 6800 using SAM mode. I guess we'll find out if this is just a well-meant 'show our absolute best foot forward' or hiding something when third party reviews drop.

In terms of price/perf, AMD haven't brought out anything that competes against the $499 3070.

Well said mate. That's the way I read it.

3070 Fe, if you can buy it is better than anything AMD will have for a while.
6800 is overpriced esp when you take the RT performance into consideration.

I don't think the 6800 is overpriced. It is priced correctly but it doesn't really undercut anything and sits really close to the 6800 XT (which is 20% more shaders for 12% extra money).

As I mentioned somewhere else I am stuck with CUDA and I need lots of RAM, so not many options for me. However, if this was not the case, I would definitely wait a bit for the reviews of the new cards and I would make the decision based on these analysis and stock levels. The 3070 is a nice card, but AMD range looks really cool as well.

Some tech websites think there could be prce reduction on the rx6800, maybe after amd has received lots of rx 6800 xt preorders, or by the end of the year?

There won't be a price reduction on the 6800, because it's priced to pre-empt the card Nvidia will inevitably slot in between the 3070 and 3080. AMD have only announced top end cards to get in Nvidia's face, the Navi 22-based cards will be coming in the New Year, which also gives them time to see how Nvidia scramble to push back.
