3090 Good Enough for 4K or do I need a 4090?

You've had 10/11 months of being 'really happy with the performance', prior to the announcement of the new cards. The 3090 didn't suddenly become obsolete just because something faster came out :P

As other's have said, if you want a new screen, buy that first and see where it leaves you, but I'd certainly have my doubts about dumping another £2k on a GPU when you could just turn down a couple of settings instead.
(all a matter of perspective from how much disposable cash you have and whether there are more fun things you could do with that money though, I suppose!)

wondered how good this card would be at 4K?
Doing a quick Google suggests that the 4090 wipes the floor with my current card, so feel a little upset and daft at the bad timing I had with the market when buying my 3090.
You feel like you got ripped off by nvidia when buying a 3090 for 2.2k and to reward them you are now considering going back and spending another 2k?.

I'd either stick with what you currently have and drop a few settings here and there or wait and see what AMD has to offer.

I game on a 65 inch LG C8 4k at 60Hz with a 3090. Works great, DLSS sometimes makes things better but generally everything runs great. I'd love to upgrade to a 120 model.
I love it
