330 (ci) tuning?

It weighs about the same, same driven wheels, same size wheels... ;)

I agree.

I didn't say any different - I just said I'd disregard a magazine report if it was using a different car as the test vehicle.

What does this proove other than which tyre manufacturers have which deals? My car came with utterly gash factory fit tyres, proves nothing :p

Who said it was to prove anything? It's just a simple question.

This is actually my first RWD car, not that it makes any difference - took me about a day to get the hang of it, just turn the electronic crap off and find the limits and remember them.

One question - how many high performance cars come with GS-D3's fitted as standard?

Thought you had a S2000

Edit, no thats Simon. Sorry :(

My bad. Spose thats that one blown out then :p I've only had GSD3s on FWD cars so I can no longer comment.

The electronic crap extends those limits in to everyday use. Out of control at 100mph is just so... controlled :p

I'll probably need to get some new tyres soon. I am using Dunlop SP9000's atm and I reckon they are coming to the latter half of their life! I'd be tempted by either Eagle F1's or the new Pilot Sport's myself, so this thread is quite interesting for me :)

Mines obviously not a BMW, not as heavy and has different suspension so it doesnt mean much but it doesnt feel dangerous at all at high speed. Being honest and I've said this before, I think the sidewalls are a bit too soft but the grip is very good and it seems to be rather progressive when pushing it so feels confident when cornering.

I've got the same issue with these Millennium tyres, unbelievable grip, and break away nicely too, but they are very soft, softer than the GS-D3's because the car feels sharp up to about 80mph then like a boat after that, I keep playing with the pressures & I've got it better but still feels like if the drivers door popped open I'd fall out of it.

What's also spooking me out is they're made in the UK. I doubt Millennium actually make the tyres - they probably just get someone else to make them and brand them up themselves.

Now who do we know who makes a continuous tread pattern tyre with suspect sidewall in the UK? Hmm.

My head says get rid of them but my pocket says punish them then get rid of them. :p

Dont care about wet performance and all that crap, I wont be pushing it hard in the wet so it's not an issue and wet braking is still better on the 'poor' tyres than what the highway code states. No denying that the F1s are very very good in the wet though

What is a problem is soft sidewalls that cause the car to feel loose and slightly out of control. Think the T1Rs are too soft on my s2000 for proper hooning and you can feel them squirm. The 35 profile tyres I had before were razor sharp, no grip in the wet though really but me, as a driver sat behind the wheel prefered them despite what numbers printed in a magazine state.

I guess it depends if you want a car that feels nice to drive or to win the l33t tyre test on the internet

Dont forget as well I guess it depends what size tyre you have. For instance, a 215/45 tyre will be better suited to hooning around the B roads than a 215/40 because the side wall will be a tad stiffer. Guess that could play a factor

I know what you're saying Simon but wet weather definately means something to others even if they dont push the car. I remember coming home from my holidays driving from Gatwick airport as it was chucking it down, I was barely doing 65mph and hit a huge puddle on the M25 and aquaplaned with the missus sleeping in the passenger seat, thats with F1s on although the 255 tyres dont help.

To me wet weather performance is when it counts the most, for dry weather I'd rather drive with a road legal cut slick if I didnt care about the wet.

Exactly Bear. You dont need to be pushing hard to round a bend at 70 in the wet and suddenly find you really, really need to stop. We've all had the moment on the motorway where we hit unexpected traffic..

Thing is, the same is true on a dry road. I push the car much harder in the dry than I do in the wet - so it's dry performance that I want and need.

As do most people, and any decent road tyre should have more than adequate grip. That aquaplaning incident really was a brown trouser moment and hopefully it wont ever happen again, but it really brought home how important wet weather grip is.

If I was Merlin with children, I would have a hit on ultimate dry weather grip for wet weather grip each and every time as saftey for the family, or for me safety for the missus comes first every time.

I'm in the "wet grip is paramount" clan. I'm not going to often get to the limits on dry road tryes. But, if it's bucketing it down and I need to stop quick, I want grip.
