Going to sell my car & need to know what to expect....as in what I should ask for if I sell it private & if I part exchange it - what to expect from a Dealer.

Car in my sig, 330ci sport, 245bhp remapped, Nov 02, manual, 44,075 miles, FBMWSH (7k till next service), HK Sound, leather, 12 mot, 4 tax. Perfect other than very very slight dink in one door (£80 to fix).

I know I'll get more selling private but I really HATE having to deal with idiots so more interested I think in the part ex figure tbh. Unless I'm going to get violently butt-rapped by a dealer I'd really like to part ex and do a nice clean hassle-free swap.

As for the replacement - it's likely to be gob smackingly boring. I've convinced myself that the way forward is to get a boring economical spacious workhorse for work and family outings/holidays etc & then buy a weekend toy.

About £13k or so I would imagine.

As for replacement, somebody sounds like they need a 530d Sport Touring ;)

£13k part ex? Or I should ask £13k if I advertised it privately?

Thinking more along the lines of a Honda Accord, or a 5 door Civic (depending on the boot size and access).

You've had a 3 Series - as soon as you get into either of thse two you'll realise how cheap and nasty they feel.

Plenty of suitable cars for you in the 3 Series range :)

WHAT?!? Why are you selling the 330?

On another note I pick up mine from the dealers tomorrow, I am praying they have not ****** damaged it this time!!!

This new 3 series is quite tail happy with all the aids turned off, had fun with the diesel earlier on, quite supprised actually.

Agreed, but all it has to do is get me round the country in moderate comfort, lug around half our house when we go away & not cost silly money to run. That will make room for something life threatening as a weekend toy.

I'm spending £350 a month on petrol atm, it's insane.

How many miles do you do for that. Compared to my 1.6 supercharged mini the BMW is returning slightly less MPG bearing in mind its a 3L. I can get 350 to a tank in my car easy and thats an auto too.

Get an Accord CDTI, decent motor, certainly not cheap and nasty, and bloody cheap to buy and maintain, and its reasonably enjoyable to drive considering the wrong wheels are being driven.

Congratulations, you just won a recommendation of...

BMW 320d Sport Touring

50mpg, comfort, lug half the house around and no horrible Honda interiors and cheap flimsey body panels!

Or get half the house there yesterday with a slightly moon-mileage 330d Sport Touring!

Run of the mill Hondas - for the lose!

are you after a different car though not being a E46 BM? I know that when I come to change I would not get another model of the car I already own. Although I was tempted by an RS to replace my ST Focus :p .

I kinda like the new Accord, but in an estate guise IT SUCKS would prefer a Mondeo ST220 estate, but that would defeat the whole object of changing :D

Keep the 330 until you are sure what you really need. I have been driving a 318D for the last week, and despite being a nice place to be, the engine is very unrefined and noisy, and genuinely just feels like a work horse being a diesel.

how noisy are BMW diesels? ive never heard on knowingly :o

Snap the 2L plant I have at the moment is very noisy. Think of the local minicab engine outside your house, this is just like that.

I have enjoyed the low down torque though, and to be fair the engine cannot be heard from inside the car ticking over at the lights, but 4k revs WTF! The 3L petrol is just starting to warm up ;)

I'll have a think about the 3 touring. Got nothing against the E46 at all, mine has been awesome.

The problem I have is I like sports cars, but need a utility car.

Only way to get both is to buy two cars.

Sounds like you need an RS2 :) Although that probably won't help with the petrol issue. And won't be cheap to run. And will be old. And will be expensive.

do it!

Or buy a great all rounder - 3 or 5 Sport Touring.

If you must buy two cars there is no reason why a fun weekend toy means you have to confine yourself to something mind numbingly boring during the week.

Kinda old these days, and the millage would be quite high?

It wasn't really a serious suggestion, I can't imagine running one is very practical, andthat's if you can find one worth buying in the first place.
